Gah, you're right. I have mostly 590s, and I always forget that you can't use extensions with a 500.

Maverick 88 trigger groups reportedly drop right into a 500/590 receiver. Add a Shoten Armory extended action release lever and you've got a near-perfect solution for pistol-gripping a Mossberg pump.

I've got a build exactly like that in the works, centered on a 590A1 and a Mesa hydraulic stock. The big question right now is what to do with the tang safety, which would be rendered inoperative by this modification.

Yeah. I have a 500 myself and I was looking into a tube extension too.

You'll need the barrel and magazine off an 8 shot model to upgrade. Personally i prefer the shorter length along with the hogue 12" lop stock. Add a light mount and upgraded safety and done. If you must go pistol grip only, get the birds head grip. Much less punishing than a regular pistol grip, which also requires moving your hand to operate the safety.

You need rails, lots of rails.
And at least two lights, in case one fails.
And at least two dedicated shotgun lasers, in case one fails.
You need an M4 stock so that you can quickly adjust the length of pull for if you are wearing your plate carrier or not.
You need extra ammo, but don't want a side saddle, so you obviously need to find a bandoleer sling.
You need a tactical breaching choke, just in case you need to tactically breach something.
You need a bayonet lug in case you run out of ammo.
You need a heat shield in case you have to use the bayonet after running out of ammo.
You need a red dot sight.
You need ghost ring sights that are cowitnessed to the red dot sight in case your red dot breaks.
You need an extended magazine tube, at least +2.

Buy all of those things on ebay, buy the cheapest ones, it's just a shotgun and airsoft parts will work just fine. You wouldn't want to have your expensive stuff taken into evidence should you ever have you tactically use your tactical shotgun for tactical home defense purposes.

are there regular stocks that help curb the recoil?

that magpull edition, is that a special addition, or was it parts added?

other than a light on it, that one looks pretty nice

also, I know this isn't about the accessories, but what about shooting slugs? can I? I was reading about rifled barrels and non-rifled barrels. Something about non-rifled can't use slugs? Or does it depend?

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.

Find it on amazon, and youll be done.
Forget the maveric 88. You got the better of the shotguns, with the sga stock you can easily get to the safety, who uses the safety anyway, its hd, not hunting, where youll put it down for lunch. This thing is loaded, and ready to rock. You will not be able to change the capacity without a new mag tube and new barrel, which probably cost just as much as a new 500.

You can shoot slugs from a normal smoothbore. You want to buy the standard "rifled" or "foster" slugs. Brenneke slugs are good to go as well. You just want to avoid the sabot slugs or anything marketed for rifled barrels. But in reality almost every slug you see in a gunshop is good for a smoothbore.

It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.

If by "regular stocks" you mean traditional or "sporter," you're probably looking for the Blackhawk Knoxx CompStock.

Going to get a promag safety switch. What is the size of the allen cap head screw I need in length, and thread pitch?

You can find the answer here.

(Hint: The thread from shotgunworld.com has the info you want, but it's gonna be hard to find ONE of what you want. You can order single replacements from Brownells or Midway. Good choice, too -- the ProMag is my favorite aftermarket safety switch.)

ok, so I am looking, and it needs to be a Fillister screw. when I look online, they are flatheads... Is this correct?

I have seen kits on ebay, that are definitely not it, and they are cap head screws with Allen sockets, but they will stick up higher....

Is it possible for me to get a Fillister screw with the flathead at the local hardware store? Or is the Brownells one special for some reason?

I do understand that I would need to cut it down to 5x16" and also that it is a 6-32

Also, while I doubt this is going to happen, what does everyone think of the bull-Pup conversion?

If you're referring to the Bullpup Unlimited chassis kit, I happen to like mine a LOT. I bought a 500 for exactly such a build (all my other SGs are 590A1s, along with one 930).

yeah that is it.... I kinda don't see the point though..... but it is pretty it costs more than my Mossberg... My 500 silver combo from Big 5 was $365 out the door (this included Tax, FSC, DROS)

Yeah, I know, but I like shotguns, and bullpups, and chassis mods, and turning wrenches ... it was kind of a perfect match.

ETA: You think it's pricey now? Just wait until you add a sling, and sights, and a sidesaddle shell holder ...
