How does one actually obtain ammo at Wal-Mart?

I paid less than 4.5 cents for the Rems today. No shipping, No hassle.

I always see people complain about such things as "deal with scum" when buying ammo at Walmart. I walked in there today. Shot the bull with the counter guy. Grabbed my Ammo and went on my way. I just do not understand where all you people have such unpleasant experiences at Walmart buying ammo.

I consider the people that work the counter as friends. And I know most who are there to get ammo too. Must be different in the Large City I guess.

Its not the employees that are scum, its the patrons, though some of the employees aren't much better. The Walmarts in my area are a dirty, disgusting mess and not somewhere pleasant to do business let alone chat with the employees.

Go ahead and buy ammo online if that suits you best. But it definitely not the best option. Cabelas does not sell ammo cheaper than Walmart. They never have.. You may run into a deal in a Blue Moon there. But overall they are much higher priced.

In my life extra time is more scarce and valuable than 22LR ammo so I gladly pay the extra few bucks to have ammo shipped to my door.

Cabela's is in no way "much higher priced' than Walmart, unless you consider 5%-8% to be "much." Typical would be $16.79 for Auto Match at WW vs $17.99 at Cabela's. But the vast majority of ammo I buy at Cabela's is with gift cards bought in the secondary market, currently available at 11.25% off face value. Walmart cards can be bought at 4% off face. Subtract those percentages and you get effective cost of $16.12 at Walmart and $15.97 at Cabela's. I get free ship-to-store on everything. Cabela's is higher on Mini Mags. $7.67 at WW vs $8.49 at C. But I've bought 1000's of Mini Mags at Gander Mountain at $7.99 with gift cards bought at 12% off, effective cost of $7.04. Again, free shipping, no gas burned, and no standing in line.

Sounds like one of the guys that scrawls "If you don't live here don't surf here" at public beaches. Surprise, not everyone on this site lives in California. In any case, there are plenty of ways to get free shipping online, i.e. every Gander order over $50 and the frequent Cabela's shipping promos.

There is a ton of .22 in other states. However, there's still a 1 box minimum per 100 (talking CCI mini mags). It's very interesting to see the ammo habits of other states as a heavy traveler. Remember when I first moved out of CA, the amount of ammo I saw on the shelves was staggering. It's only gotten better since that time. But like most have stated, most employees are cool and will tell you you what's on the shipping roster and what time to get there.

I'm not sure what it's worth but here's how we in the I.E. have to go about it: Head in around 9:30pm and look at the shipping manifest.

If there is .22 on the docket head in the next day around 6:00am and wait until 9am when it is on the shelf. You can tell how early you need to get there by what kind and how much ammo there is.

Or shoot something else.

BrassBadger is showing Federal Auto Match 325 in stock at my Wal-Mart as of 10:30pm (after closing). There has literally been nothing green in several weeks, and I check every day at various times throughout the day.

How do I go about getting my hands on some of that? Tomorrow morning?

Mine usually says in stock the night before on Brassbadger too, but of course they do not stock the ammo at night at mine. They put it out at 9:00AM faithfully the next morning.

Mine has a rule against selling it in the middle of the night too. Maybe some stores will though, if you can get someone to do it. It appears they let the Local Stores decide how to handle ammo sale individually. No Corporate rule for every store I guess. Good Luck

I have no problem buying a box of .22lr CCI's for twice what others are paying. I have about 50 bricks that i've accumulated over the past 4 months that is my rainy day stash and yes it is a ton of money but I live on the left coast where gas is more than what others are paying so what am I gonna do...not drive? Point is I love to shoot and I love to shoot .22. At those prices its still way cheaper than 5.56 and I get to shoot and not look at a dwindling stash because I'm griping about .10/round vs .06/round. Get on every Midway, Brownells, Cabella's etc wishlist and be diligent at checking the website as often as possible. I've found that by the time they list it as available in stock they're usually through half their available stock but its worth the wait because you don't have to drive and wait in line or get pissed at the guy that got the last box the day it arrives at the store.

As far as Walmart when I go on the website it says call and give them the SKU number to see if they have it. I spent one morning calling every walmart in the surrounding areas that sell ammo (I live in LA so its outside the city) and of course none of them have it and most of them say they haven't had .22 in months. Yes Walmart is cheap but waiting for them or believing the website is usually a lost cause. Regardless good luck. You'll find your rhythm to buying it and even if its more than you'd normally pay at least you'll still get to go out and plink and enjoy shooting...at a premium of course

+1! Also give it another 4-6 months and the shortage of .22 lr will ease, it happened with everything else .22 lr will come back too.

walked into one of our walmarts today right before 7am and at 7 was able to buy 3 of the 4 1000 round boxes of m22. our other wallys had the same in 22 yesterday. the one where i scored 22 today also had remingotn yellow jackets in 50 round boxes and they had cases of other new ammo today, even 2 cases of 38.
