OK here is his/her (fishnbeers's) response to a spike's complete AR22, take it for what it is worth, but why would you waste your/our time with a post like this, when we give our advice and get this response, sorry CG brothers but really,

    From Fishnbeer,
"thanks for the tip, however at this point in time i am not interested in spending that much on a 22. i was already considering a 10/22 instead of the 22 upper mostly for financial reasons. i dont want to spend more than 500 total for everything, and at that point im kind of on the fence of getting a complete rifle like the mp 15-22"

this is the link I provided to him in a PM.

Also get the Better mag adapter and S&W mags that AR22 mentioned and you are GTG.

I would second this suggestion. Build your lower how you like it, add the CMMG upper, click in the Better-Mag adapter and go with M&P15-22 magazines.

I have both the CMMG and TacSol dedicated .22 uppers and would advise going CMMG since Better-Mag adapters does not work in TacSol uppers.

that cmmg upper is what i am leaning towards. at +/- $490 it is within my budget and pretty much ready to go. all i need now for the lower is a cheap/used parts kit. i would prefer an 18" barrel, but i dont think there would be a huge difference at 100 yds between a 16" and 18" barrel. i do want the bolt hold open to work, and after studying the mag adapter a little more it does not seem as cumbersome as i had originally imagined. i would not want to go the tacsol route if it will not have that feature.

for the mag release i was thinking of using a raddlock, as i still want the option of using the lower for centerfire application without having to do any extra work to keep things legal

Well, for one thing it is nice to have in case you lose count of the rounds you have left and dry fire on a empty chamber. I for one have a hard time counting as high as 50 when we use the Drums. Let alone keep that many numbers straight in my head Yes the Blackdogs will stop the bolt from going forward after the last round, but it will close again with the mag removed.

Mine will not hurt to be dry fired. But some do.

And. It is nice to have the full function of a "real" AR...Especially for the guys that use their AR22s to practice on the cheap, and want to replicate the manual of arms of the real thing.

I personally would not buy that Spikes, especially for any amount even nearing the asking price.. I will not go into it in detail. But you can search and find the reasons yourself.

I will say this. Go with a Company that will give you support for what they sell. CMMG and Taccom will do that for you.

Would I buy a SW M&P 15-22. No. But it will fill a void for a guy that is willing too, and that is all he can afford.

I have many reasons for going the dedicated upper route we went. I did look at the SW closely. But after researching them. Handling them and talking to others, I decided the CMMG route was the much better option. Yes it will cost more, but in my opinion well worth the extra cost to do it right the first time.

The SW is a fine little rifle. My opinion is you will be happier going the dedicated route the first time out. I would definitely go the SW route over that Spikes however if it came down to the only two options I had.

As far as what you decide to purchase in the end. That is your choice. I have no problem with any decision you ultimately make. And neither should anyone else. Heck I will not even look down on you if you bought that Spikes. I would feel sorry for you though

It is your money. Your decision. I just wanted to tell you my first hand experience with things to maybe help you make that decision a little easier.

That is how I ended up going the CMMG dedicated route over a SW 15 22. From help from others mostly..I was blind going in, but alot of people helped me make what I believe strongly, was the best decision in the end. And I appreciate the help I received early on in making that choice..So I am happy to help others if I can. And hopefully they will be as Happy with things as they turned out for me.

I will say this about CMMG now though. Their prices have gone up way too much in the last year or two though. I bought one of my complete CMMG Sierra uppers about 3 years ago for around 300.00 from JoeBobs. My how things change.

Buying used is also a very viable option. Here is a couple examples that looks like a decent deals. the one guy will even throw in a brick of the all elusive .22 ammo.

The Chiappa M4-22 upper seems good too. ~$199 for a complete upper.
