My family heirloom was always going to be the Winchester pre '64 M 94 in 32 Win Spl. I got it but my eye was always on the S&W 6" K22 dad bought new in '75. Such a sweet shooter. Dad passed last month and the instructions were anything I wanted. K22 and 617 will do fine.

You have exquisite taste, both in dogs AND revolvers!

Opinions on the issue will be as varied as opinions on pizza. I will simply tell you that I have been very happy with my Ruger 22/45 with a bull barrel. It is a great shooter, I have never had a problem with it, except a FTF while using a particular brand of ammo, though one in a box of 500 isn't bad! It has made a great intro pistol for some family and friends.

A keepsake to me, as in buying and putting up for a new grand kid = something 50+ years old made of nothing but but wood and steel.

If you also teach them gunsmithing,a good semi-auto like a 41 is good.

If you want the legacy to last dang near forever, 617, 17 or maybe some of the Ruger revolvers. Colt revolver of course also.
