10/22 vs 10/22 takedown

Was unaware of the AGP stock.Not sure why you would want a folding stock on a takedown.

Especially if it's loose.Planning on putting a compact scope on mine and leaving it as is.

I have a takedown with the AGP stock. It makes a real small footprint and still fits in the original case. Even though the stock does not lock in the folded position it is tight enough that it does not flop around. Over all, with the AGP stock or the factory stock it is a real nice rifle.

You can use a small patch of velcro or small magnets. That's what a couple of guys did to keep their stocks 'locked' when folded.

Own both.Bought the takedown on impulse.Takedown is as reliable as my 30+ year old 10-22.

Tested it for function with several types of ammo.Almost boring as far as reliability.Accuracy with iron sights was no different.
All of my test firing was with factory 10 round magazines.IMHO these are the gold standard for a 10-22.

I am in the same situation as TANK57 with same results. Out to 50yds, accuracy is about the same. A hair better for the standard. At 100yds the
takedown doesn't do near as well. I think Boyds is now making a wood stock for the Takedown.

Why would that be? Seems same barrel/twist would render the same results regardless of range. Just curious if you knew.

Thanks for the info. Mine isn't loose enough that it bothers me. I would have to give it a good swing to get it to move.

Not sure I know the reason. I have tried it several times with the same result.
Just one of those gun mysteries. Both were from the bench with bipod up front. Maybe it is more pressure on the barrel on the TD. I did a mod to free float the barrel on the standard 10/22 and removed the barrel band. So, on the standard the pressure is on the stock, not the barrel. On the TD, with bipod there is pressure on the barrel at the point of attachment to the reciever. This is just a guess on my part.

I don't know if the take down model has after market stocks, but with the standard you can buy one if you wish too! (i am in the future)

i just put some tech sights on my SS standard 10/22, can't wait to go shoot it!

either way, i don't think you can go wrong with either one. but the take down model does cost more $$$

Thanks for all the replies, Im not really planning on taking it many places. Was liking te takedown mostly for the ease of cleaning. But I think Im gonna get the standard and maybe an extra stock or ammo or sights.

I just jailed my TD on Saturday. I went with the all black version with the threaded barrel/flash suppressor. Pretty hard to find and had to pay more for it. $405 shipped.

My takedown is sensitive to how it's held. Too much tension on the forend changes the point of aim by an inch or more at 50 yards. I pull on the forend to steady myself which is a bad habit I guess. I think it's better to get a pistol grip stock like an APG and pull it to your shoulder through the grip holding the forend lightly. Anny pressure on the forend can deflect the barrel.

Did you try adjusting the lockup nut?
