I bought my Anschutz .22 LR Sporter for $250.00 (back in 1980). That was not only a good buy, but an excellent investment, because I can sell that rifle on gunbroker.com or rimfirecentral.com for $1,500.00. That is almost an average 18% annual return on my investment, and I have the best rifle money can buy. Always buy quality. If you can't, then save and wait until you can.

      Follow the ammo find thread.

In January I bought 6000 rounds.

Had a 2000 round back order ship.

And, could have bought another 5250 rounds.

January could have been a 13,250 round month for me.

      All because of that thread.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

You can be sure that whoever is recommending you a Ruger or a Savage has never shot or even touched an Anschutz or a CZ.
Now, if a new Anschutz is not fitting your budget you can either look for a used one or buy a new CZ. The difference in quality and accuracy between the two isn't very significant.
You can add the Brno between the Annie and the CZ's. The bad thing about the Brno, it's a little hard to find.

I own 3 CZ 452's and 3 455's and I think they are the best bolty's you can buy for the money. My 452 trainer has always been my favorite but it constantly gets challenged by it's siblings. Like when my new 455 17hmr shot a 5 shot .68 inch group at 100 yards it's first day out. Careful though, as choo2x said, they can be very addictive.

CZs getting lots of love here, and justifiably so. However, I concur that Ruger American Rimfire is a heck of a lot of gun for the money. Back a few months ago when I was interested in getting a manual-action .22 rifle, I looked at the CZ, the Savage, and the Ruger. The CZs were clearly a class above the Savage and Ruger, but they were priced accordingly. There really wasn't much to pick between the Savage and Ruger, but what won me over to the Ruger were 1)many positive reviews about it 2)commonality of magazines with my Ruger 10/22.

I've been extremely happy with mine.

Well, I went for the CZ. Picked up a 455 with a bull barrel. I like the features of the Ruger American, but I really like a wood stock. The build of the CZ is just head and shoulders above the Ruger. Now it's time to pick a scope....

I live in San Francisco, so Cabelas is the only place that can ship to me basically.

Find somewhere else to ship your ammo to.

                        Good luck.

I've owned a few Savage and CZ .22's and they have been each other's equal in terms of accuracy. The CZ offers a bit more fit/finish quality, but that doesn't translate into accuracy over the Savage lineup.

You should check out the new Savage BMag. It is a SWEET little rimfire and probably easier to find that ammo than it is .22lr at this point!!

I want one of these BAD!!!! 3k fps round that could do a lot of damage.

$328 for the rifle and save the other $175 for ammo.

                                best bolt action 22

To start with, you need to shoulder each rifle and found the most comfortable most likely that will be your rifle. Like most folks say the different model of 22 is like comparing Chev and Ford. Then you should think about sporter or Varmint model as well, because I found the heavier barrel does get a little bit better accuracy. That my two cents.
