I second the 10/22 but also like my original TC contender 22 carbine single shot and a few High Standard pistols....there are some c&r for sale too.

10/22. pretty much a must have. I've had mine for 20+ years. I'm sure the others mentioned are good rifles. But get a 10/22. You won't regret it. Although...

I do have a MP15-22. And without a doubt it's the most awesome 22 rifle you're gonna find. It's AR size and feel, plenty accurate enough, and more fun to shoot than anything.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

Even though I no longer own one (had 3 in the past), I generally recommend a 10/22 to anyone who says they just want to "plink and have fun." The Ruger is the best turnkey option for it IMO.

If you are coming from the centerfire world, you will quicky realize you can buy both a 22lr rifle and pistol for the price of a good 9mm.
Evently you will end up with both a 22lr rifle and pistol anyhow. They are just that addictive.
            Things to look at are:
Ruger 10/22 rifle(every household should have one) ~$230
            Browing buckmark (pistol) ~$320
            Ruger Mark II/III (pistol) ~ $320
Above prices are "shop around price"

              First rifle, 10-22. Done.

And yes, you will eventually own a 22 pistol! They are both such a blast that its just the natural evolution!

I would recommend a Marlin 795 as a starter .22lr semi-auto rifle; low price and crazy accurate out of the box.

                For a pistol, I have a Smith & Wesson 22A, and I like it a lot.

You can check out Magnum Research's 10/22. It's got a neat carbine fiber wrapped barrel. It's fancier than your average 10/22 but doesn't cost as much as a Kidd or VQ rifle.

Get yourself a nice bolt or lever rifle, and a BuckMark pistol.

Or if you're like me you'll have more than one of each.
                            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

10/22 was the first rimfire I learned on.
My buddy's got one and I have constant access to it so my money went toward something more fun.

Picked up a Henry Golden Boy after finding a shop locally that had it and a Frontier with the octagnal barrel and had the chance to feel the difference.

                              Next up is a cheap 22/45 and either 15/22 or 522 (-:

Keep checking the Ammo Finds sticky here, and you'll get lucky!
(I've been able to stock up about 3500 rounds in the past 3 weeks that way)
