Picked up my 15-22 a month ago which is my first gun. Within a week I had bought 2500 rounds of .22 and had it shipped to my door at around 6-7 c a round. Awesome gun and great money saver if you go with 22. Shooting .223 is a lot of fun too, but I enjoy going out and putting 400-500 rounds down range which gets expensive if you are not shooting .22

If you're buying bulk .22lr at 15 cents a round, you're overpaying. If you're buying match .22lr at 15 cents a round, I have to wonder how that compares to the 7.62x54r at 18 cents.
As far as one round of 7.62x54r being louder than an entire brick of .22lr, so?Comment

It wasn't dishonest, so much as making a point while leaving out a couple of details
People obviously have different goals when it comes to shooting. You don't need match ammo to hit soda cans at 100 yards, some people are more interested in making tiny holes in paper. But if you're going to make a cost comparison like jakebb44 did, you should really state the goal considering the drastic differences. Although considering the next portion of the statement involves the cost to noise ratio...Comment

I bought a remington 597 semi auto and a marlin xt22 bolt action the last couple of months. I find 22lr ammo at dicks and walmart once in a while. I don't have much on hand right now. 8000 or so. Maybe the 22 ammo will loosen up a little now over the next few months, I'll be able to restock the ammo safe. I have about 10 different calibers right now, 223 is in the future.I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.Comment

I thought I was hoardy with a couple of bricks?

I look at it this way, if someone else is there to buy 22 ammo to shoot, I let them go first, if they are there to buy and make a buck, I will get what I can to prevent that. I used to keep a few hundred rounds because I knew I could buy it on the way or at the range. At least, with what I have on tap now, I know I can shoot for a couple of months without wondering if the meager supply in stores will dry up.I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.Comment

Your are correct, sir, its hard to beat the fun we have shooting the 22's.
My 11 year old son and I have fun with both calibers, the 22's are a little easier to load up and more of a challenging to shoot. The two AR's we have shoot flat out to 200 yards and kind of get boring after a hundred rounds or so, the 22's are a little more of a test.
We took out the new 10/22 last Sat along with the Henry H001. They Henry is a much more accurate gun then the Ruger and IMO, a lot more fun to shoot.
OP, if you keep an eye on the "Deals, sales and coupons" forum here you will be able to find some ammo. I've bought 4k+ in the last month @ pre panic price. It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
Happiness is a warm gun.

Your .22 ammo figure is way off. It can be had for about .06-.10 a round. Interesting you measure fun factor by how loud the report is. I'd rather hit what Im aiming at.
