Both are reliable. I like my 15-22 because it helped me train my wife and two daughters how to be comfortable with the AR platform. Their transition to my larger caliber ARs was in turn quick, easy, and on target with very little ammo.

I'd suggest the 10/22, and 10/22 hands down if you want to upgrade it to be a baby tack driver. If you wanted to shoot an AR style rifle, shoot an AR-15.

Enjoy your takedown! I bought a 15-22 two years ago and my cousin bought a stainless 10/22. I noticed that since the Ruger is heavier, recoil is very light. I feel a little bit more with the polymer receivers of the S&W. I'm not wild about tacti-cool 10/22's, they don't quite look right to me. I told myself I was going to end up with both rifles and my interest in the Ruger has come back hard recently. I definitely see the 10/22 as a gun safe staple.

I have one of each. I love both but in different ways.

I put tech sights and a hogue stock on the 10/22. it's stock otherwise. super accurate and fun to shoot. the 15-22 is pretty accurate not as much as the 10/22 but so much fun to shoot.

if you want more accuracy, get the 10/22. if you want more fun, get the 15-22. don't get me wrong, I love my 10/22, but the 15-22 is a blast to shoot. and my son loves it. it is really by far the best of the AR .22 rifles short of a dedicated .22 upper.

if you're going to customize a gun, get the 10/22. but I kinda don't see the point in spending $800 (barrel, trigger group, scope, etc.) to upgrade a $200 rifle that's pretty damn good out of the box. although if that's your thing, then more power to you.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

I currently have a couple S&W 15-22's, and 5 or 6 Ruger 10/22's including a Take Down model. If I had to choose one......I would have no problem picking the 10/22 over the 15-22. They are both COOL, but the 10/22 has IMHO the best rimfire semi auto action ever....just my .02 As far as which 10/22, that's a tough one. My favorite is probably the 10/22-FS (Flash Suppressor) that I added a Hogue rubber stock with a Primary Arms Micro Dot......it's one of my favorite rifles in my safe, and not bragging but it has a lot of competition....it's that good (reliable, accurate, comfortable, and FUN to shoot). Like I stated, just my .02 Good Luck, I am sure you'll be happy with either one, or both

how do you like the takedown? is it worth the extra $100?

I love the 10/22 also, I have a loader so burning ammo happens a lot.

Getting mags for the 10/22 is a lot easier, but I was lucky enough to pick up 10-10 rd short mags for the 15-22.

It boils down to this, if you own and use an AR patterned rifle and if you want to teach them how to use it, get the 15-22, otherwise get a 10/22 first and add the 15-22 later
Another thought, it you plan to leave the rifle stock, I would recommend the 15-22. If you want to customize it, go with the 10/22

Honestly, I have only shot 1 magazine through it. I replaced the stock, stock with a AGP Folding Stock with extended butt pad (to lengthen the LOP) and have a picantinny rail and Bushnell TRS-25 for it that I have not installed yet. Wish I could be more help......FYI - The reason I purchased it was to use as a survival type rfile to leave in my truck. I even purchased an extra MOLE bag to strap on the bag for a first aid kit.......just to many projects lately to get it done.

the tactical model is $30 more... not bad but i don't think i need a threaded barrel, and i love the look of stainless...

though the davidson model is stainless with a flash hider

put a pair of stainless takedowns in jail. considered getting 3 regular stainless ones but figured i might as well go for broke.

might get 1 or 2 more before the sale ends
