    15-22 vs 10-22

I plan to pick up a 22 on friday, to teach my kids when they get old enough...

i had a 15-22 for 5 weeks this year and loved it, definitely mall ninja status. I olanned to get a 10/22 stainless takedown for 330, but saw the 15-22 for 460...

Any reasons you all can think of for getting the s&w over the ruger?

I say get both, but if I had to choose I would definitely get the ruger time and time again

Both! Oh heck might as well get a Marlin 795 while you are at it...

I own both and I prefer the 15/22 much more. Only downside is finding 10 round magazines for it.

        This

If I could own only one, the 10/22, and if the takedown is in the picture, its an easy choice for me.

leaning towards the ruger since it's cheaper... and never had one. the 15-22 is a cool rifle though and technically it can be a takedown

just wish i could find a MOE for a good price... but at that point i can get 2 takedowns

The best price I've seen lately was 500 for the 15/22 MOE.

yeah, im about 90% sure I'm going with the ruger.

when it's time to teach them how to use an ar-15, i guess we can use the ar-15 lol

You said Kid(s). You can get two ruger 10/22s for the price of one
S&W. Buy two Rugers and make the second kid happy.
Down side: Two kids each with 10/22s is going to burn
a whole lot of ammo. I have seen this at the range.

                  i have 4 kids... 4yo twins 2 yo girl 1yo boy.

1 10/22 almost makes more sense than 2 or 3...

plus the takedowns are 330... but how cool would it be for the kid to have their own BOB

I have both. I like the 15-22 since it cheap AR practice. The controls are almost identical to the center fire, so I get a lot of handling time.

I love the 10/22 also, I have a loader so burning ammo happens a lot.

Getting mags for the 10/22 is a lot easier, but I was lucky enough to pick up 10-10 rd short mags for the 15-22.

It boils down to this, if you own and use an AR patterned rifle and if you wAnt to teach them how to use it, get the 15-22, otherwise get a 10/22 first and add the 15-22 later

If you have a 15-22 and do meaningful shooting and training with it, there is nothing "mall ninja" about it.

If you use it only for mugshots and displaying your warface in your backyard, then it is mall ninja.

I think the 15-22 is great, friends say they function reliably. I would not buy one personally, I would stick with a 10/22. Plenty of versions to pick from.

Just install some peep sights on your 10/22 and you got your AR target practice. My 10/22's are built to function, not to look pretty or tacticool.

I say get both! I could not go without a 10/22 and a .22 AR.

If you want a AR platform .22 rifle, a CMMG dedicated upper on a Mil spec lower is a better option than the 15/22. More upgradable, spare parts readily available, mags readily available, and of course aluminum uppers/lowers VS plastic. It just simply feels more like a real AR than the 15/22.

My CMMG has been more reliable than my 10/22 with a wide range of ammo.

get the 10/22 or two of them and get different stocks for them. promag and nordic components make an ar15 like chasis for the 10/22, and the tapco t6/ tactical trainer looks and feels really nice too. The mags are easier to find, and you can go from sporter to tactical and back inside of about 15mins. Just my $.02
