Do you think this site will ship 28 rounds mag as repair kits to CA?

I actually have one of those, picked up used from a CalGunner a couple of weeks ago. He assured me it was great and didn't have issues, but I haven't had time to verify yet. Fingers crossed! I still want a CMMG one, though, as I need two.

Check out the Chiappa M4-22 uppers. They are lightweight and much cheaper than the competitors. Works well and takes blackdog mags.

Good point, that's doubtful. One "advantage" to the CMMG uppers, I guess, since they don't come with mags, so no worries.

I'd tell them to open up the package and keep the mag for themselves as a gift, if it makes the difference between getting what I want/need and not. Order up some 10 rounders from JoeBob at $20ea and call it done.

It there really that much of an advantage to get a dedicated upper vs an M&P 15-22?

              2. lower is not interchangeable for a real AR upper
              3. other AR mods cannot necessarily be done to this (triggers, rails?, etc)

I would never personally go this route. I absolutely love my AR-22 Tacsol with MFR DD rail, ergo grip, ACS-L stock, troy flip irons... other than recoil I can't tell i'm not shooting my DD-MV7. Cheap training indoor or outdoor. Can't wait to do appleseed with it soon. Shoots dime sized groups at <50 yards with bulk federal. There is one AR-22 upper I want even more right now, but i'm not saying what it is until I get it, since it is hard to find!!!

Probably depends on the dedicated upper. With CMMG, the upper is a solid forged upper on whatever quality lower you want, including whatever trigger group, etc., that you want to use. (or perhaps already have for your AR15)

One big advantage a Chiappia upper (and CMMG) holds over the M&P 15-22 is it takes readily-available Black Dog mags, while the S&W rifle ONLY takes S&W mags (which are on the scarce side).

Edit: I see kenshinoro2007 was typing pretty much the same thing I was, at the same time.

The same light-weight CMMG upper looks to be in stock for about five bucks more than the other OOS sale price here. They carry the regular M4 profile as well but it is OOS. Same deal... it looks like the upgraded bolt and F/A block is not in stock, so not an option but you could call and check.

Another great source for Black Dog mags is 44mag.com - lots of different sizes with steel lips. $14 or so...

Dedicated uppers are great, but the factory bolt catch on your lower does not work. The follower on the .22 mags are in the wrong location to actuate the bolt catch. The follower will hold the bolt open when the mag is empty, but when you remove the mag, you'll have to pull it out because of pressure on the follower. Also, when you remove the mag, the bolt will close.

Here's what I've learned about dealing with this problem. Go to post #16 for pics. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...highlight=bhoa

Good point. My 15/22 avoids this. S&W 10 rd mags seem to be available as of late,Pete
