I guess it just feels wrong to pay $500 for half a gun, compared to ~$200 or less for the entire rifle (for Ruger 10/22, Marlin, Savage, etc), even though it kinda makes sense.
But...that's apples and oranges. Not the same rifle. CMMG for the win!

TACCOM came out with the Ultra Light Weight uppers yielding a complete sub 4 lb. rifle which has good accuracy.
I still think that the TACCOM offerings are the best... If not a complete upper, then absolutely some of the reliability upgrades.

I've had a CZ V22 upper for a while. It runs well, very accurate, but operates a little differently than a normal AR. It's a side-charger and does not have an AR style charging handle.

I recently purchased a used AR upper with a CMMG bolt and barrel and I built a dedicated .22 rimfire with a Rock River Arms upper, CMMG bolt and barrel. Both run very well. No FTF's or FTE's using the TACCOM plug. Without the plug, there were problems. With all .22 rimfires, some guns run better with certain brands of ammo and you'll need to go through a vetting process yourself. CCI Minimags seem to run in everything, so if your .22 rimfire doesn't run with that ammo, something else is probably wrong with your gun.

My biggest gripe about dedicated .22 uppers and the .22 conversion bolt in a 5.56 upper is the fact the bolt catch does not activate on an empty magazine and it does not lock the .22 rimfire bolt in the open position. Here's a link to a post discussing this.

I worked on 2 smaller departments. Ammo cost for training just wasn't in the budget. Hence the AR .22.
I started with Spikes, then CMMG, DPMS, and now TACCOM.

The AR .22 uppers was developed for L.E. and Military training. It quickly caught on with the public.
That's why you saw CMMG develope the forward assist and BHOA in an attempt to duplicate the duty weapon functions.
Most L.E. rifle training is done inside 50 yards. The AR .22 was more than sufficient for this purpose.
The .22 upper could be set up just like the duty weapon. Since it used the existing lower, trigger and controls were already familiar.

CMMG was responsible for making the system reliable in my opinion.

Now it just keeps getting better.

Lots has changed, improved, took a step back, and is moving forward again in the AR .22 upper world.

Too light of an upper is a problem in my eyes, but that is because I want my AR-22 to exactly mirror my regular AR..including weight (at least close). Light is nice, but not as great for replication training.

I have been looking for a Bravo CMMG BCG... Botach has it listed and even offers it with the option of NO MAG which is $15 less and allows it to ship to CA (the ten round mag versions seem impossible to track down)... $185 is pretty decent for the unit - but it is NEVER in stock. I already have lots of mags for my Sig 522.

I shouldn't have entered this thread because now I am going the dedicated upper route. That is a great price.

Just remember it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. Shipping times from the are looking pretty good also my order left within 48 hours.

Man this my post really took off. Thanks for all the info!

Is this ^^^ upper the older style without the stainless bolt and what not? Seems like a very good price, cheapest I've seen.
How is the lightweight profile barrel? Any one have one? Thanks

It's the current part number on CMMG's sight, they do have the option for stainless bolt and collar. Which I did want but for the price I can live with phosphated parts.

I always recommend the stainless bolt... They tend to run better, they're harder, and they dont require break-in... If you get the parkerized, well... Lots of guys do, but stuff wont be smooth sailing.

The light profile barrel is certainly no ULW Taccom, but its not bad... It's not light either (IMHO)...

Does CMMG sell a dedicated upper with the SS bolt included, or are you talking about dropping $230 on the standalone bolt and swapping it in? I don't see one on their website.

I've seen some like on cabelas website that say in the q&a section that it comes with a stainless bolt. And it shows one in the picture. And then some sites show a phosphate bolt, like the site above. Same part number? Newer production comes with the stainless bolt?
