BTW, thanks OP for posting this thread, I've been considering doing the same thing, but you beat me to it!
You can order 22 barrels from CMMG (http://www.cmmginc.com/category_s/1841.htm). The "conversion" bolt IS a dedicated bolt. You take your current BCG out and drop in the conversion one.

Note that you won't need a gas tube or gas block, since these bolts are blow-back operated.

So the .22 barrel from CMMG connects to a regular stripped upper, just like any other 5.56 AR15 barrel would? Any special ramps (M4, etc) needed, or just connect it all normally but use the CMMG bolt? I've always wondered how that would work...

While I haven't tried with a stripped 5.56 upper, I did take the complete upper I bought apart when I installed a free float rail, just for fun.

I just slide the barrel into the upper, lined up the notch and torqued down the barrel nut.

I don't think you need any special feed ramps

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll be doing some shipping tonight when I get home!
          Sorry, not sorry.

Remember, you must also change the bolt collar

So, just to clarify, with a dedicated .22 barrel and a conversion bolt assembly, the bolt collar needs to be changed to a .22 collar?

                Thanks

Just saw two more .22 uppers on sale today:

                  ATI - $308

                  Chiappa - $312

Not sure on the quality of these, just passing it along.

The conversion bolt assembly comes with something like this, its called a chamber adapter:

You will need to install a barrel collar in the bolt assembly, (Keep in mind, some barrels include the collar... But they should say.):

NOTE: You must be VERY careful to properly remove the old chamber adapter and reinsert the new barrel collar on a conversion bolt... It's extremely easy to bend the rails on the bolt to be out of spec... This will cause your bolt to malfunction and is extremely difficult to fix properly..... It's also the problem with at least 4/5 bolts I've handled that are having issues...

My upper will be here Tuesday. I was hunting for a mag loader for Black Dog mags and noticed on his site he has anti-tilt followers that were updated last year that can be ordered free.

I thought it was pretty cool that you can order as many of these as you want. Likely this has been posted before, but a search turned up nothing. Usually manufacturers wont place an updated item on their page like that even if they would send it out if you ask.

Great info, thanks! I have a few older BDM mags that could use this upgrade.
