Just buy a S&W 15/22 and you have a correct AR type training tool
without a bunch of loose parts floating around. Not much
        difference in price,either. Pete

They do sell a dedicated upper with the SS box...

            Only problem with this is:

            1. special mags (can't use old ceiner type mags/blackdogs)
            2. lower is not interchangeable for a real AR upper
            3. other AR mods cannot necessarily be done to this (triggers, rails?, etc)

I would never personally go this route. I absolutely love my AR-22 Tacsol with MFR DD rail, ergo grip, ACS-L stock, troy flip irons... other than recoil I can't tell i'm not shooting my DD-MV7. Cheap training indoor or outdoor. Can't wait to do appleseed with it soon. Shoots dime sized groups at <50 yards with bulk federal. There is one AR-22 upper I want even more right now, but i'm not saying what it is until I get it, since it is hard to find!!!

Link? Because it's not on the CMMG website. That was my point.

                Yes it is...

Look at any of the dedicated .22LR Uppers:

It's an upgrade option that costs $30. Look at the drop down box under "22 Action Upgrade", it says, "SS Bolt & Collar w/Forward Assist [Add $30.00]"...

I even painted you a map

Anyway. considering the cost of the SS action... I think a TACCOM is a good value and IMHO better hardware (but it doesn't have a forward assist adapter).

Ok, now I feel silly. That's what I get for looking at the description on the overview page (which all say phosphate) instead of drilling down into the details to see the drop down options menu.

I'll have to see if I can find one, now. I managed to miss the gunaccessories.us deal, because of credit card issues and their inane policy about only shipping to the billing address. This morning, I finally called my CC company to actually formally change my billing address from home to my office, just so I could order this damn thing, and in the amount of time that call took, the number of remaining stock went from 3 left to OOS. AAAAARGH!!! Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky now and find one with the SS group anyway. I wonder what the backorder times are for direct purchases from CMMG?

Yeah, I called CMMG and they said approx 4 months, maybe more.

Brownells carries (for $500!) the CMMG with SS bolt:

But it's really spendy, plus I really prefer the ones with the A2 front sight instead of having to spend still more on an aftermarket sight.

Cal's just shipped out my CMMG Upper. FAST. They have some interesting things in stock. Take a look at the caliber conversion area. Chiappa Uppers for $267, Advantage Arms 1911 conversions for $239. M26c Tasers for $375... Some good deals.

We will have to see how the phosphated bolt works out - I definitely would have opted for a +$30 SS option if available, but couldn't pass up the deal. I don't feel like I am rolling the dice too much here.

Yeah, I saw that Chippia upper. CHEAP:

I actually have one of those, picked up used from a CalGunner a couple of weeks ago. He assured me it was great and didn't have issues, but I haven't had time to verify yet. Fingers crossed! I still want a CMMG one, though, as I need two.

Here's my question regarding .22 uppers:

I have an upper, hand guard and the other accessories, where do I get a .22 ar barrel, and a dedicated .22 bolt, if there is such a thing (as opposed to a conversion)?

BTW, thanks OP for posting this thread, I've been considering doing the same thing, but you beat me to it!
                                Sorry, not sorry.
