Good low cost 22 pistols?

+1 on the Ruger MK2 and 3. MK2 over the 3, since the 3 can have functionality problems because of all the safety crap they added (specifically the LCI).

I would recommend against the Sig Mosquito because they are notoriously jam-o-matic. I've seen several come into my local range (at least 8) and never seen a happy customer or more than 30 rounds go off without a hitch.

I know a guy who loves his Neos... And remember those being inexpensive?

Yeah I heard that the mosquito is really picky with the ammo, you'd have to buy expensive ammo which defeats the purpose of owning a 22 in he first place.

A Walther P22 can be had for less than $400.

Although, that Ruger SR22 is a good price at $329.

Congrats! I have a Phoenix Arms 22. It's fine for what it is, and serves the purpose I have in mind for it. I've probably shot around 1000+ rounds in it. I broke the hammer (probably my fault clearing a jam) and they fixed it and gave me 3 mags. It's not really a target or range pistol, though. It's not built to that standard. The SR22, however, seems to fit the bill perfectly. *that* will last a long , long time. I really need to buy one. Hmm maybe tomorrow, thanks OP!

My niece and nephew shot the SR22 last month at Burro they loved it so I went out and bought one. Break it out on the 28th I did have some FTF issues but I was using old ammo. Just got a brick from Cabelas I'll see how that goes.

Thanks for the suggestions, yeah I saw a s&w 22a yesterday at turners, was like 300+ I think. Looks like a solid gun. Will keep my eye out for the ones you guys talked about.

Awesome gun, like the guy at calarms in ontario told me, "I feel like robocop when I'm holding this" lol

So when all is said and done, ordering from gunbroker, how much do you end up paying in shipping fees, taxes.. ect.. Thats the only thing that holds ,e back from buying online.

Having worked at a shop/range that rented guns I'd never recommend a S&W 22, p-22, mosquito or Neos. They just don't hold up. Get a gun proven to hold up to +1,000,000 rounds like a Buckmark or Ruger MK series or 22/45. If you want to go used, look for a High Standard Browning Challenger or Colt Woodsman.

Thanks again for the suggestions, I was on the fence about getting a S&W 22A or a phoenix arms 22 I saw for $200, I took a chance and went to turners in Rancho and found a Ruger sr22 for $320, groped it and immediately said "I'll take it". Now to wait 10 days, I'll post pics when it's home.

You will love your SR22p. An excellent pistol. Far better than the Mosquito, which is a Jam-o-Matic.

I'll vouch for the S&W 22A. I have one in stainless and put a red dot sight on it. It's accurate and I have had no trouble with reliability. I'll have a few misfires out of a Remington or Winchester bulk 22 junk ammo, but it loves mini mags.

I don't know if these are in the low price range for .22's but my favorites are the M&P22 and the Mosquito. I like that they are full size pistols to emulate their center-fire counterparts and they look better than 10/22 or 22/45 type plinkers. People bash the Mosquito because they don't understand it... they think they can use cheap bulk ammo right off the bat without a hitch, there is a break-in period for the first 100-200 rounds with CCI or the like and then you can start using the bulk stuff. The M&P22 doesn't really have that problem as you can start using the bulk stuff from the get go. I just like Sig's and their DA/SA controls better.
