I have a S&W 22A that's a very good shooter for the price. I picked mine up when they were closer to $200 than the price they are now. I believe my 22A has a 4 inch barrel. It has the regular grips. I'm sure it was the cheapest model at the time. It likes just about any kind of ammo and is extremely accurate. I put a red-dot sight on the rail and the 22A will put a bullet where the dot is if you do your job.
My other suggestion is to look for a used Ruger MK II pistol. They show up every now and then for close to $300. You can't go wrong with a Ruger and unless the gun has been abused or damaged, a used Ruger will still have plenty of years to go before you'd have to fix anything. -
