then again, no need to go all out... personal preference-- just do more research, and take care of the necessities first (new charging bolt handle, Volquartsen parts, etc.).
What Volquatsen parts do you recommend? I was thinking of purchasing KIDD CH, auto release and buffers. Also thinking of going with an extended mag release, even though it looks funky

You can't go wrong with KIDD or VQ. For VQ, you can go with the bolt release and target hammer, extended bolt handle/recoil spring assembly, exact edge extractor, extended mag release, etc.

        Buy once cry once.
Everyone is giving you great ideas, as already stated just shoot it stock for awhile. Except the sights. Change those for sure haha

A lot of people spend ridiculous amount of money "accessorizing" their 1022 without firing it first

That's true. But in my case, I have. VQ parts does wonders; which is why I'm recommending them to the OP.

That's the same advice my buddy told me. Too bad mine's has been problematic with most ammo except CCI Mini Mags.

No doubt it works wonders, not everyone needs them though.
I've debated upgrading parts on mine but I think ill shoot about half of the ammo I currently have and then decide what to do next
Op post a picture of your rifle and how you shot with it!

                      Scotch bright first

I purchased a Ruger 10/22 10 days ago, so I get to pick up my new toy tonight after work. My question is, due to the fact of it only being a .22 do you buy once cry once or go cheap and upgrade only if needed. I was looking into getting a bipod, either scope or red dot/holographic sight, and a new stock with a sling. I just don't want to go out and pay alot of money for the accessories I want.

                      Thanks in advance
If yours shoots great; mine has been a pain in the @@s. It finally ran two or three mags without any hiccups only AFTER I used scotch bright to polish or sanded the inside of the receiver. The scrub cleaned overspray and allowed the bolt to operate as designed. It shoots much better, now.

But in my mind while I can 'deck it out' I have come to appreciate the stock rifle. They are so well designed and efficient right out of the box. A good scope and it GTG.
