Accessorizing your new 10/22

Hello,

I purchased a Ruger 10/22 10 days ago, so I get to pick up my new toy tonight after work. My question is, due to the fact of it only being a .22 do you buy once cry once or go cheap and upgrade only if needed. I was looking into getting a bipod, either scope or red dot/holographic sight, and a new stock with a sling. I just don't want to go out and pay alot of money for the accessories I want.

Take your time and buy quality stuff, keep an eye out for sales!
Until you have "evereything" shoot the hell out of it in whatever current state it's in.

Upgrade your stock, shoot the hell out of your barrel. Use irons I reccomend the tech sights. After you can shoot what you consider to be good or accurate upgrade to a scope.

Buy a good amount of ammo and have fun!

So go with Harris or Atlas bipod and buy quality scope? I've heard of people saying to buy cheap glass on 22's, such as walmart or big 5 purchased glass

I got myself a KIDD trigger, best trigger ever, feels like a mouse click. However, it was a 300 dollar purchase, worth more than a factory 10 22. Save up and get one.

If not, get yourself a auto bolt release (12 dollars), and a bolt buffer (6 dollars). KIDD sells these parts too.

Don't forget getting a good scope, have fun, and happy plinking.

I don't plan on doing too many mods right away. I will be doing the auto bolt release though and possibly the bolt buffer. I'm mainly asking of aesthetic additions, rather than performance upgrades.

Shoot your gun spend more money on ammo than aesthetics for the first few months. Shoot it and challenge yourself. You'll soon have an idea what you want the rifle for, plinking or target shooting.

That's what I have planned. Everything else I want is for gift ideas lol

My GF will support me because she loves the 10/22 and she will be shooting it alot. My parents can care less so, I'm good there

Ok awesome. So I wouldn't look ridiculous putting expensive optics on it after learning to do well with irons.

Think tech sights will take up half of the mounting holes required for the rail to mount a scope, so may need some other rail option if you do both. Or have two 10/22's....

Pace yourself. Get yourself a large plastic tub. It will hold all the parts and accessories for your 10-22 over the next decade. You are probably going to take it apart and change things quite a bit...

Watch for stuff on sale. Read the forums dedicated to .22 shooters. As someone mentioned elsewhere. This will be the most expensive cheap gun you've ever owned. ;-)
