As Merc is alluding to the barrel/receiver of the Ruger MK series is the serialized firearm part and therefore must go thru an FFL. This presents 2 problems in CA, the handgun roster and being only a receiver the Safe Handling Demo.

As long as you already had a frame, the safe handling demo wouldn't have to be a problem depending on how you're getting it(and there were factory 22/45 frames for sale on ebay a while back, of all places). The SSE without screwing up the muzzle end seems like it'd be the most difficult part(I have a couple ideas of how to do it, but it's nothing easy like most other handguns, and the cost for such a low demand job would be pretty high).

As I understand it, an OLL is DROSed as "other." Since it can be built into either a rifle or a pistol.

The PacLite is a combination barrel and receiver for a handgun. So, it comes with all the roadblocks mentioned by Chaos47.

Beware of the one's that are threaded on the muzzle end; and that's defined as an AW on a pistol.

Does seem strange that CA DOJ would have us dros a part. Of course, we do have to dros off list lowers..

it's not just a part, it the federally-defined receiver. of course it must be 4473'd and therefore DROS'ed.

This barrel receiver isn't on the safe gun list so, possibly, I'm outa luck.
These barrels are threaded, so, maybe I could screw an extension on it. The barrel is already a single shot.

They aren't all threaded. You just have to ppt them from somebody who already has one somehow.

The Ruger is unique in that the barrel/receiver are serialized. You can buy Buckmark barrels all day long. Just have to buy another pistol to do it. Oh well.

I had a 22/45 with the paclite upper.

I swear that thing would put ten rounds through the same hole at 25 yards. Made it really fun to shoot, because it was almost impossible to miss with.


If you are trying to do one, I think it'd be easier to go with a browning buckmark, and get the trail lite barrel for it. They make non threaded ones, and for the buckmark, the barrel isn't part of the receiver, so it will ship straight to your door.

Lone Wolf barrels for Glocks are threaded. I've never had a problem buying those.

Well sure, but you can't just drop a threaded barrel into a glock in CA either. That's not the same as trying to DROS an AW.

Yea but a GLOCK barrel is not a controlled part...
A Pac-lite barrel/receiver for a Ruger MK is a federally defined serialized firearm.

Try buying a Lone Wolf Timberwolf frame and you would have to use an FFL because the Frame on a Glock is the serialized firearm.

If you install a threaded barrel on your pistol such as the one you mentioned without your magazine being locked or having a thread protector/muzzle device welded and pinned to the barrel you have created an Assault Weapon in CA.

If you have any pistols with threaded barrels installed on them and they do not have fixed magazines (or have the threads covered) I suggest you removed them ASAP!

Grip housing was sent to Kingshouse from rimfirecentral.
I can use any grips for 1911's with very minor fitting.
Currently has VZ Zebra's.



This is my favorite pistol.
Accurate...eats everything..never missed a beat.
