    Ruger sr-22 vs M&P 15-22

    Hello,
Need opinions on these two 22 Rifles. A local shop has a Ruger SR-22 for $499 no tax and another shop has a S&W 15-22 for $550. Which 22 do you guys prefer. I was looking to get the smith but saw this Ruger at the shop and it feels nice and sturdy. With the memorial day sale, I dont know if I can pass it up. Does anyone own both? Thanks

On a side note does anyone have the Archangel Nomad Kit. Midway has it for $149 and I can get the 10/22 carbine for $300. That thing looks pretty cool!

I own the 15-22, a buddy of mine owns the SR22 rifle. Imo, if you're buying a rifle that is intended to mimic the AR-15, then the only choice is the 15-22. Charging handle, bolt release, last shot hold open, etc. The 15-22 will break down similar to the AR-15, and will accept many AR parts. The 15-22 has a great barrel, is reliable, accurate and plain fun to shoot. The SR22 rifle has none of the AR-15 features. The SR22 rifle is just a 10/22 dressed up as an AR-15.

If you want a dedicated AR platform in .22LR, go with the M&P 15-22!

          +1 for M&P 15-22 it's well worth the $50ish difference IMO.

I was at the same crossroads as you in deciding between these two rifles. The Ruger has more readily available magazines, but it feels heavier than the M&P15-22 and does not come with a rear sight. I was told that it is also complicated to disassemble.

I ended up buying the 15-22. It is truly a great rifle and mimics the AR very closely. I love the 10-22 as well but I just decided to stick with the original style ones.

I would get the M&P 15-22, of course the only reason I'd buy a "black rifle" style .22lr would be to use as a trainer for a 5.56 AR, so I'd want as much as possible to be identical to a real AR.

                      Your intended use may differ.
