Why the run on Ruger 10/22s?

OK I can understand why there would be a run on the takedown model but a run on the basic wood and stainless steel models? I though everyone already had one of these why does everyone now need like 4 or 5?

I think it is because the new laws would ban 10/22s. People are grabbing them so they can pass it down to their kids and whatnot.

Why would the run on takedowns be different than regular 10/22s?

I don't think it is. Everything is in short supply. And yes, there is a state senate bill that seeks to ban all semiauto rifles that have a detachable magazine -- including rimfires.

I cannot see it passing; but, one never knows in this goofy state.

^ yes. Each of my sons will be handed a couple of lifetime-longguns this Christmas. Last year I will ever be able to do it without a dealer & paperwork, so I'm paying what it takes to get them the basics. Fortunately, I got an early start on some of the pieces.
I don't shoot because I like guns, I shoot because I hate paper.

I didn't know there was a ban being considered. I need to get off my a** and get one, or a couple.

This was baffling to me as well. The 10/22 is exempted from the AW ban, or was I misreading the text of the bill?

The problem is that the public is very uneducated about weapons. The think all semiautomatics are bad but I bet you 80% of them do not know what "semi" means. Needless to say they are completely clueless about rimfire weapons versus centerfire weapons.

Actually, our politicians are very uneducated about weapons.

In California the blind leads the blind. It's like having Shaq coach Dwight Howard on free-throws.

That's different, the takedowns were so popular, you just couldn't find them pre-panic. The second a store got one, it was sold, or it was on hold from someone who missed it the last time.

22's are cheaper to shoot & good bang to buck ratio. Anything that shoots approx. 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards is fun!

That makes sense, I didn't know they were a popular item before all this. I thought it was just because its a 10/22.
