I think storing .22 lr loose in ammo cans is the way to go(for bulk packs), much more efficient use of space. Put a moisture absorber in there forget about them.

Does anyone know how many rounds of loose .22 lr fit in a 50 cal ammo can?

I agree, I am about to do that with some types. Too many flimsy cardboard bulk packs stacked up and would take way too many cans to store in the boxes. I just need to have a whole can of each because I don't want to mix different types. I think I will repurpose the Federal cans like you did... to store GB's, and maybe loose Federal bulk if I can dig up 5 or 6k of them to dump in.

3k in a MTG Zombie fat 50 plastic ammo can.
(10 Federal target and a Win X box fits on top comfortably closed with a little more room to spare)

I've got four of those MTM's and 20 GI's... I stopped buying MTM after I got the first batch.

The MTM's have 3k rounds each of .22 in bricks, which fit well. I just don't like the way the top flexes if you have to move them - like the handle will give out or the latches will give out. The latches are also not very secure, each one locks up a little different. Makes me wonder if the MTM cylinders are really air and water tight after extended time in the ground.

Just picked these up yesterday at Dicks Sporting Goods for $127 each OTD. The guy at the gun counter said that a bunch of the stores were finally getting them. This store had 50 +- boxes left. Good luck!

With Dick's corporate attitude of blaming lawful gun owners for the murder of children, I can't understand why gun owners who should know better keep supporting them. I guess stocking up on ammo is more important than standing up for what you (should) believe in. It would be different if you just couldn't get it anywhere else, but 22 ammo is not that hard to find anymore.

Oh well. Enjoy it, I guess.
