<OT post>
I find it crazy I just passed up the TB, Blazer, and Norma earlier. I got my first gun on 3/17 from the Marketplace forum here, shot for the first time on 3/28 after the jail time, and have only been following this thread for less than a month.
But in less than 1 month, I have:
Found out how to check Walmart stock from the comfort of home (only scored once though, stock often seems to disappear before closing, but employees are adamant that they wait to put it out at 7am, which suggests corrupt employees buying it before it hits the floors). I guess I could have scored twice, but being 4th in line for 4 Federal 550s (Milpitas store has a 1 box limit) and a line that was 10 long by 7:15, I decided to throw away the 20 minutes I had invested and let some other poor soul have it (and continue on to work early, so I could go pick up my gun from jail and shoot it at lunch).
Paid 11c per round for Aguila Match ammo, since my 1950's Hi Standard Duramatic would be served well with standard velocity (even though it can safely shoot high velocity, and I tried a few dozen rounds)
Saw the beauty of cart links and their demise after only a few days. Funny thing is most of my ammo is from after the demise of the cart links
Got my first backorder that I hope will give me a nice surprise sometime in the future
Bought my second gun today from a gunbroker auction with local PPT, so I can shoot the bulk ammo I have with less concern (hollow points didn't feed well on my Duramatic, and I can use high velocity on this H&R 922 instead to reduce wear on the blowback action of the Duramatic)
Have over a dozen 4-hour range visits worth of ammo in 2 .50 cans (with desiccants) from Walmart, Cabela's, and Midway, averaging around 7.7c (7c if I remove from consideration those 1k rounds at 11c for match ammo)

I do see how PMs would be bad, because of the slowness of it all.
I like the tiny URL idea. tiny.cc allows you to remove links after you register, unlike bit.ly, tinyurl.com, or goo.gl. This way, even if someone quotes you, the poster has control of disabling the link when it is OOS. It only adds a few seconds when creating a link once you have registered an account and are logged in.
Moving this thread to more private areas (contributor's lounge, facebook, etc) won't work because it flourishes with more eyes on it. Gunbot's weakness is that they have one scraper that can monitor only so often or risk being banned by the merchants for refreshing too often (like how people were speculating a few days ago about Gander not showing in stock for some people who refreshed too much). While on here, even if many are offline, there are dozens if not hundreds of people refreshing every so often. That's why stock shows up here faster than on Gunbot.
Finally, I don't think Gunbot is auto scraping this thread, because it would be very difficult to auto parse human interaction. The only reason Blazers showed up there was that Cabela's updated the page with price (without an add to cart link), and Gunbot scripts just check for "Sold Out" in a specific location, and it was no longer there, so it thought in stock.Last edited by Odilatinam; 04-08-2014, 5:51 PM.Comment
