10/22 trigger job

Every Gun I have has an aftermarket Trigger. Except my 10/22! Deciding I wanna shoot it more, I`ve had enough of the (what seems like) 8 lb trigger. I have a Volq. Hammer & Sear 65$ Shipped, in the Mail, looking forward to it. Never heard of Kidd, I`m sure they`re nice!!!

I stoned my hammer using this RFC thread as a reference. I didn't go too far with it but it made a noticeable difference vs. stock. Then my wife ordered me the Volq target hammer and trigger blade for my bday which I installed a few nights ago. I can say it feels like a huge difference vs. my stoning job. Can't wait to shoot it, but gotta wait out this rain first. Wish I had a pull gauge to document stock/self stoning/Volq weights.

Change or stone the hammer. Will make a world of difference with just that done.

Low budget: Brimstone = great value, great vendor
Mid: KIDD TG kit
High: KIDD single/2 stage = awesome.

I have a KIDD 1.5# single stage and it spoils you for almost anything else. I am afraid of trying a 2 stage as I might need to buy more of them!

Just did a mini trigger job on my 10/22. Polished all the moving surfaces with 1500Grit then
dremmel buffing wheel and rubbing compound. If you use 1500 and keep the hammer/shear
faces square, you really can't screw up.Check out Brimstone Gunsmithing for vids on what surfaces need polishing. Would not call the results "match grade" but much better than stock. Removed lots of creep and breaks clean. Took about 30 min, no cost except time. Also cut about 3/4 of one coil off of trigger return spring.

I just finished installing the Volquartsen "HP" action kit.

The kit contains: trigger, sear, disconnector, hammer, shims, bushings, hammer spring, reset spring and a bolt buffer. They were even nice enough to pre-assemble the trigger/discon/sear with a slave pin! And another slave pin was included just for fun.

The trigger still creeps but it feels much crisper and lighter.

If you can't afford a Kidd trigger on every 10/22 you own, don't buy one.
As soon as you buy one, you will want them for every gun you own.
They are THAT good...

I just did mine by grinding the mating surfaces of the trigger and sear. I used a portable belt sander for the trigger and a file for the sear. Be careful if you're using the belt sander, you don't want to grind too much. I did it by turning the belt sander on then off as soon as it reach max speed and grind the trigger on the momentum. I have a video that I will post on utube.

Anyone with a lick of sense can do a trigger job on a 10/22. It is so simple. Didn't notice anyone mention the pins yet. Oversize pins can help take-up some of the play. Stoning and polishing without changing the basic geometry of the sear engagement is easy. Use a pull gauge though, and go slow enough that you can stop where you feel comfortable. I generally don't go lighter than 2 3/4 pounds. YMMV.

I tried stoning the hammer per the RFC thread, but the new hammers have bushings built in so I couldn't clamp it.

I've worked it down to about 3lbs so far, and polished up all parts and it's a lot nicer now. Just got back from the range and works really well.

I have been thinking about making mine a bull pup, would a trigger hob be useless in that case?

I ended up using the VQ Hammer/Sear/Disconnector Kit with Shims etc. It`s nice for about 85$ & more Versatile than a Trigger measured in Ounces. I take new People Shooting all the time, & only have one .22. Versatility is key right now. The VQ set-up is nice, but not perfect. Bench/Match Shooting I can see how a very light crisp Trigger would perform better.

Why send away for a trigger job when you yourself can get a variety of aftermarket triggers and self-install?

It's a 10/22, not a Olympic-grade Hammerli.
