Aperture Inserts

Did you ever get help with this? Tech Sights now has different sized apertures, maybe a bigger aperture would solve your problem. Perhaps giving them a call would help.

I didn't know they had apertures in different sizes. I'll probably start with the biggest one they have and go from there. Thanks for the help.

My 795 is the cheesiest rifle I've ever owned.

However, it comes with us every time we go out in the sticks, regardless of whatever other guns we bring. With the addition of Tech Sights, DIP guard/trigger (doubling it's original price), several 10 round mags and a few internal tweaks, it's become the best plinking rifle I've ever owned.

Brings a smile to my face every time I shoot it, and I'm a senior citizen with 20+ other nice rimfires to choose from.

The trim, light, compressed hefty-bag OEM stock is one of the rifle's best features IMO.

If i want to shoot a clunky rifle I'll break out the 10/22.

Just picked up a Marlin 795 and am looking to get some ammo.
In reading the instruction manual - it recommends certain ammunition.

CCI Mini-mag
CCI Mini-mag HP
Federal Classic HV
Remington HV (not Thunderbolt)
Winchester Super X HV

My concern is with the CCI - it looks like they are copper plated?
If I recall the older ones were not copper plated (20 yrs ago - yes it has been that long since I bought .22 LR) - just lead round nose.

I did pick up so some of the Super X and some Federal - wanted to pickup some more during the holiday.

I am already seeing the .22LR prices start to climb.....

The instruction manual states that when using modern ammunition you really do not need to clean the bore under normal conditions?

It has been a while since I have shot .22 LR and do recall the barrel getting some lead buildup - should I be concerned with the copper plated lead round nose CCI ammo?

I've shot two type of Aguila, some Federal Champion and Federal Automatch. All have run well and been accurate. A lot of the ammo today is copper plated or copper washed.

Don't over think it. Copper wash is fine and so is lead (which is usually actually lubed with wax.)
The big thing is to not use Hyper Velocity ammo. High and Standard will function great. Hyper will chew up your buffer.

My rifles favorites are CCI Blazer 525 Bulk followed by Federal blue box.

Clean your rifle (removing heavier packing oil) and (very) lightly oil it before you shoot it for the first time for best results.

Those two rounds are my favorite inexpensive rounds and they do great in my 795's as well. Mini Mags work good as well. I have not tried more expensive varieties beyond that.

Howdy Chaos47,

You've done us 'old' Marlin 700 owners a great service and truly made tinkering with it a fun hobby....thank you. I've had it so long I had forgotten where it came from, now I know.

Due to the already here lead-free thing in state refuge areas and coming statewide in another year or so...I have shot the new CCI Copper-22 just to see what would happen.
It definitely has a different 'wack' to it. Very obvious faster speed on the cycling, concerned about damage to the little plastic recoil buffer so I have a new one waiting if needed and recoil spring rod...will tear it down after 200 rounds to examine. Stronger sound and that little 21gr copper polymer bullet was chronographed (by me) out of the 18" barrel at 1775.
Surprisingly it shot a 1" 5-shot groups at 50 yards, good enough for ground squirrels at that distance. Very different point of aim, can't just throw these in with regular shells and expect to stay on target without a new sight-in.

Have replaced the trigger spring set and trigger with MCARBO kits, great improvement, dropped the trigger pull to 3.5 and its crisp! MCARBO also has a stronger recoil spring kit designed for the new ammo to slow down the cycle but have not tried it.

Anyway, thanks for this grand effort... you've got all my long standing questions answered in your well organized tribute to the little gun that I have such affection for.

First .22 rifle in many years

I had my first .22 rifle when I was in the 6th grade (living in Petaluma, CA at the time). It was a single shot, bolt action. I think it is in the garage (somewhere...) at my folks house in Reno. Anyway, I did a lot of research for good quality, yet inexpensive, .22 rifles. The Marlin 795 is what I recently picked up. I checked out various reviews on Youtube, including the nutnfancy channel. I just got a Magula Babyuplula speedloader in the mail today, which I really needed. I noticed it really pinches the thumb loading those tiny magazines! One area of the magazine really likes to dig into the thumb! Anyway, .22 ammo is way cheaper than everything else so I'm looking forward to plinking away.
