M&P 22

Dollar - Yes 122002 is threaded with a perminantly installed thread protector to make it CA DOJ compliant. The 122000 has a removable thread protector with flats on both sides and a wrench to remove it. This is the same for the Walther P22 (same people who manufactured the M&P22).
C&R - The barrel cap on the CA model is simply epoxied on, not pinned. I'm not a lawyer but some legal advice would be to not mention that you are able to expose the threads on your barrel sleeve. Having a pistol with a threaded barrel in CA would land you in a heap of trouble with the CA DOJ. They would classify your M&P22 an assault weapon as ridiculous as that sounds.

In theory yes. Would they go through the trouble? Probably not. Could you find a 07FFL that would do it? Maybe
Back when the M&P22 just got roster'ed a couple of 122000 accidentally got shipped to CA gun shops and a few were sold. (I was actually in the process of DROS on one) Once they figured out the mistake they had to get all the guns back. I asked them if they can simply have S&W or a gunsmith permanently attach the thread protector but they said they couldn't do it. Luckily the 122002 started shipping to all the gun shops a few weeks later and they were easy to get again. The thing with the M&P22 is they're made by Walther in Germany and they ship large batches to the States every couple of months. Every shop will have them for a month or so and then they all disappear for three months.
But I've actually seen quite a few M&P22CA at local gun shops in my area (Norcal/Bay Area) within the last month. Which part of the state are you in?Last edited by firebert; 04-24-2013, 3:08 PM.03FFL - NRA Life Member - GOA MemberComment

Finally my credit card got billed for the Magazines. I order on 1/16/13 so I guess they were really going like hot cakes then cause its more then two weeks since "AmmoCanMagnets" got his and he ordered a day before I did. To bad I'm off on vacation to Florida today. Won't get to play with them. On the bright side I get to play with my Latino Redneck Family's Guns in Florida. YAY!Comment

When this whole panic hit, these mags were selling ~$100 each. Good to see that supply is catching up with the demand and prices are almost back to normal.Comment

Thought I would bring this back--good read on the development.
Picked up my M&P yesterday. Grabed it on the last day before falling off the roster. Paid $359 from Turners. From what I have been reading, it's only been on it for 2 years. What a gaggle at the start when they first hit the market here. Trying to find magazines for it now, around $26-$30 seem to be the norm.
Any sight upgrades I can use?Last edited by DevilDawgJJ; 05-20-2014, 7:32 AM.Originally posted by Citadelgrad87I pity your kids, because they are doomed.Originally posted by FLIGHT762Can I bring my Donkey? He loves Chunky Monkey.Comment

Believe it's because of CA's new microstamping requirement, and a lot of these manufacturer's just don't want anything to do with it, or lose business in CA because of it, so they don't bother.

"Bye Felicia!" - Said by me, as I looked at Kalfornia in my rearview for the last time, 9/22/17.
