True, but the cost savings of .22lr over .223 makes up for that cost pretty quick. if it costs an extra $200, that's really only like buying 500rds of cheap .223 vs buying 500rds of .22lr so after shooting $20 worth of .22lr you'd make up the costs. Personally, i think my wife and i could put 5,000rds through it in the first week

true, can't see the future, but i doubt my wife would want to sell it. She really enjoys shooting .22lr and if she knows the cost savings then she'd probably make me sell a different rifle. Plus, if i sold her rifle she'd have no reason to want to go shooting with me, so there's not much motivation for me to sell either.

unless she gets some other rifles

thats my betters halfs lefty AR (JD lower) with a 22 lefty bolt (stag upper and bolt).. she did her own stipling on the grip and painted all the plastic purple it purple (which shows much better in person)
she loves it.. shes done 2 3xgun comps with it (with normal .223 hence the featureless build) and shoots a monthly tactical rimfire match with it..

stripped lefty uppers are $180.. so even building an upper costs a bunch.. but it got her hooked on shooting and i can now spend as much time/money on guns as i want and she never has a problem with it..
im in the process of building her another upper.. im going to get her a lightweight barrel and possiably turn it into a mock dissy since she loves irons... im also going to see if i can butcher a right handed upper into a left handed upper... i have no idea if that would work but ive got access to a mill so i figure why not..

from as far as i can see a Stag lefty upper and the CMMG conversion is the only real way to go. would be about $800 for the upper and conversion together ($600+$200) and $100 cheapest for the complete lower. So at $900 I don't really see this happening anytime soon (especially since I'm still trying to build my own AR). But i do need to find a cheap way to get her a left handed .22lr rifle somehow....

So, on your wife's AR, does it use a .223/5.56 barrel with a 1:7-1:9 twist? Or does it use a 'real' .22LR barrel with a 1:16 (or so) twist? Seems to me that this is the issue with going with a pure conversion kit. I'd rather not have to 'destroy' anything in the receiver to do it right, but I'd be willing to do so if I have to.
I'm planning on building a dedicated .22LR AR for left handers (that would be me) but want it with a proper twist rate for a .22. I read that if I just screw in a .22LR barrel, I'll have issues with the head space and/or feed ramp and/or extractor. I have the LH lower, the build kit, stock and tube, the bare receiver and now just need the barrel and bolt/BCG, etc. I'm stuck until I can get answers to these questions and then get pointed to the specific parts.
I was hoping for an 18" medium weight barrel so that the weight and feel match my Stag 3GL FWIW.
          Any help or advice here??
          Thx,
          B

Have a son that is a lefty I have searched for the same thing and have yet to be successful. He does shoot from the "wrong side" of everything he has shot thus far without much trouble.

Are you stuck on it being an AR? The Browning Semi-auto 22 is somewhat ambidextrious...it ejects out the bottom. Just a thought, but not really able to "girly" it up much.
Some people talk about it and some people do it.

Fixed it for you. The early M-16s were hell on leftys. I still have scars on my right forearm from the hot brass. The current ones are much more lefty friendly on the ejection. Likewise the 1911's. I have had them eject the brass directly over my head (hopefully). It is not conducive to good shooting to have brass flying at your face.

I don't know of any dedicated left-hand .22 uppers, but Stag makes a conversion kit for $220 which will convert one of their left-handed uppers to fire .22 long rifle: http://www.stagarms.com/product_info...roducts_id=360

Sorry to change the thought of thread. But I read $100 New Frontier uppers?! Where could I find one? And do they have bullet buttons?
