ammo and magazines. all that is really needed.

tech sights can be beneficial. but if you want it tacti-cool you can buy a different stock so it adds some rails, pistol grip and adjustable stock.

Need? Nothing. It's a functional shooter right out of the box.

Want? That's opening a whole other can of worms.

Trigger group would be the best / most noticable upgrade. A nice barrel will help it shoot tighter groups as well.

It really depends on what you plan on using it for. A nice bipod doesn't make any sense if you're never going to shoot from a bench or prone.

I put uncle mikes sling studs and a GI sling on mine. If you're thinking about doing an apple seed you might want to go that route.

One of the great things about the 10/22 is that you can do pretty much anything you want to it. But in terms of *have to*, not much...

+1 for tech sights, they are a great improvement over the stock sights. I was able to keep all my shots (groups of 5)@ 25m on the 1" squares I was shooting at with tech sights. Before I installed them I couldn't get a group that tight. The stock sights adjustments are too crude.

ammo ... its the ONLY necessities .... now for best add-ons/mods i would go scope first, then trigger job..

then stock, barrel and bolt work ,if needed/wanted for the cool factor or bench shooting

can hang all the tacticool crap off it you want , but wont make it shoot better in the end

Yep. Ammo and more ammo. Tri mags for the 10 rounders, extended mag release, after market extractor, bolt buffer and bore snake if you want. For now, touch up front sight with flourecsant color nail polish, make a difference.

I would second ammo and mags

Take it out and run it for awhile and see what you think .
I added an extended mag release

The only thing that you need up front is ammo and a couple of extra mags. To get it really functioning good put some work into the shooter by taking an Appleseed course. A 10/22 with Tech-Sights, GI sling, and 5 mags is the perfect Appleseed rifle.

Once you get the feel for it I'd look at having the trigger done. If you want to stay with open sights I'd go with Tech-Sights TSR100 adjustable sights.
