Why not just go for a Smith & Wesson Model 63 or 317?

Thats MSRP. On average, they seem to be going more for around $500 or less. The MSRP for a Single-Six is the same.

Nope.. and likely there won't be unless they make one dedicated to conversions. From what I gather, the barrel is a dedicated 22lr.. which is a good thing in my opinion as I don't count on shooting anything other than 22lr if I got this. Rather have more accuracy vs versatility on a caliber I might shoot once in a full moon.

The barrel is not a .22lr barrel. It's a compromise barrel. See my posts above.

Thanks for the clarification. I also contacted Ruger just to be doubly sure.

                          Ruger single-ten

I purchased mine friday. Won't get to pick until the 23rd. A little pricey @ $571.22 out the door, but once I held it I couldn't say no. As for the purists out there knocking on the Williams fiber optic sights, while the gun might look a little better with traditional sights, I prefer to shoot my guns and have them perform at their peak. Know what I have on my Buckmark with tactical solutions 5.5 barrel, as well as my ruger gp-100? Williams Fire Sights. And I love em.

Nice, I'm sure you'll love it. I have the 44 mag Super Blackhawk Hunter and always have a blast shooting it. So far its taken two coyotes and a black bear. Ever since I got it I've had an urge to get its little brother the Ruger Single Six Hunter 22/22mag, but the price has always kept me at bay. List price $777

Yup.. got an email back from Ruger regarding the barrel. Just a standard Single-Six barrel. Shame. I thought it'd have a dedicated 22lr barrel for extra accuracy with that round.

                                Single -ten accuracy

I don't understand the quibbling over the dedicated lr. barrel bore vs. the convertible. Gunblast.com has a nice review of the new single -ten and according to their ransom rest tests of as low as .8 inch to 1.5 inch @ 25 yards, what the hell more could you possibly ask for? This is purposely built as a plinker, light hunter, and trail gun. If you want a tack driver, to qualify for the olympics drop $1500 and get an Anschutz.
