    Ruger 10/22 trigger

    Hey gang,

My 30 year old 10/22 needs some trigger help. Pretty heavy and could be smoother. Is it possible to help it out on my own or what do you folks suggest?

I am not looking for a match grade trigger nor can I tolerate the expense of such, what are my options?

I installed a volquartsen hammer and power custom shim kit in my 10/22T, very happy with the trigger. Pretty inexepensive. Maybe I did more but that's what I can recall. This was a few years ago after research on rimfirecentral. I'd suggest taking a look over there.

Power Customs hammer, sear, spring, shim kit for @ 39.00. Very light smooth trigger after 100 round break in.

I took my stock trigger down from around 8 pounds to 4 and 1/2. Just use fine grit sandpaper to polish key surfaces. Then after, work on the angle of the notch in the hammer. Good luck, it's not hard.

I'll second the VQ hammer. I have one in my 10/22 and made the pull light and smooth. Mark

check youtube, rimfirecentral.com, google etc. TONS of info how do to this on your own with stock parts too. Just as posted by "Dead" buffing out all the spots that have metal on metal contact is key. Be carefull about that angle of the notch. If your stuck and need help just shoot me a PM

I did mine on my own, on my stock parts and am very happy with it. so is all who have tried shooting my 10/22

if you want to you can aways just do the upgrade parts with the newer stuff:
volquerston & KIDD seems to be the best ive heard, but many swear by power customs as well as others. timney makes a drop in trigger too - but these options can easily cost you a brand new 10/22, its all up to you
            I mainly shoot .22lr, 9mm,45 acp, 357 & 38, 12G, 7.62x39, .308, .223/556, 7.62x54r, 300 win mag, 8x57

I went with a Hornet customs drop in trigger group. Great buy for the money if you ask me.

Herm at Hornet will also tune your existing trigger group.

All my triggers are Hornet or Volquartsen!

Hornet has this bargain unit as well:

dont triggers tend to improve with use? maybe the trigger group just needs a good cleaning.

Yes, its match grade and yes its expensive...but the KID Two Stage trigger is in a class of its own. One big issue with it though...you wont want to fire your other guns much any more.

OP you might want to check out what people have done on rimfirecentral as there is a wealth of detailed info there.

I think a trigger that costs more than the rifle can be eliminated from the list of prospects.

I just did this last week. Now let me say that i'm an experienced knife maker and i know quite a bit about polishing. I did everything in this picture and hand rubbed all the surfaces to 1200 grit then polished for about a 1500 grit finish. Mirror coat all the way. Now it did get rid of all the creep in the trigger. Super smooth now, But it only reduced it from about 8 pounds to about 6.5 to 7. Barely any difference. I'm thinking gonna change the angle of the hammer and try that. I'll keep it posted here if i figure out how to do it right.
