.22 magnum revolver?

Which are you looking at? Some of the come with both cylinders. I'm eyeballing the Heritage rough riders.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

i think the ruger single six (SA) comes with both cylinders... the s&w model 617 (DA) might have that option as well.
.22wmr has a fair bit more powder behind it than .22LR.

The Ruger Single Six convertible comes with both a .22lr and .22WMR cylinders. The .22WMR is louder and faster but not a lot of recoil. Rugers are built like tanks and will last forever.
Walmart sells a brick of about 500 .22lr for about $20 while a box of 50 .22WMR goes for about $10.Comment

I like Saffron, my Heritage Rough Rider. interchangable .22lr or wmr cylinders out the door $235ish. Very solid and decent tolerances. Great single action trigger. The stock sights were waaay off though. simple fix, but you may want to get the one with adjustable sights. I shoot bulk .22lr for practice and have a stash of Federal 50 grain WMR for SHTF.Dont go against the grain if you cant handle it - Wu TangComment

The 22 mag is violent to shoot compared to a 22LR. The Magnum has nearly the energy of a 38 Special but with more range (from the velocity) They through fire from the muzzle from unburned powder because they are loaded for longer barrel rifles. it is difficult to take advantage of the round because of the pistols inherent inaccuracy at distance compared to a rifle. So......be sure to get one with dual cylinders, you will shoot the 22LR more and it is a lot cheaper. In another life, my buddies and I killed a lot of game up to deer size with a 22 mag hollow point.Comment

The .22mag is NOT "violent" to shoot. A .22mag has more felt punch in a Derringer sized gun when compared to a .22LR out of the same sized mouse gun. However, in a Ruger Single Six or Colt revolver, the .22mags are a PLEASURE to shoot all darn day long! The .22mag is very accurate except out of a small NAA or Derringer sized gun. Then again, so is a .22LR.
Here is just one of my favorite wheel guns in both .22LR and .22WMR. I have two cylinders for my little Colt beauty.

Colt "New Frontier" .22LR & .22WMR.

Try and find a good used S&W model 651. I have one and it is one of the the best revolvers I own. It is made on the S&W J frame, the same frame as the Chief special, but with 6 rounds as opposed to 5 in the .38 sp. Accurate, light recoil and very fun to shoot. Also it is a great trail gun and great for self defense. As noted, the .22 Magnum is much more than a souped up .22LR. Very close to the basic .38 special. This is a perfect ladies gun.Last edited by 003; 01-13-2011, 5:49 PM.Comment

i think the .22 WMR is greatly underrated...although i prefer it in the rifle/carbine platform.NRA life member, US Army Veteran
i am a legend in my own mind...
we are told not to judge muslims by what a few do...yet, the NRA membership and firearms owners are ALL considered as radical...

My first hand gun was a Ruger Convertible Six. I sold it but 40 years later I started missing it so I bought another last year. They are fun.
So far what has been talked about are single action revolvers. There are .22 magnum double action guns produced by Tarus, Smith & Wesson and others. They make an acceptable SD weapon (as in... way better than nothing), for those who find the .380 or .38 spl doesn't work .

My dad has a Ruger single six, stainless with both cylinders. Its a great gun, very fun to shoot and very well built. MSRP= $601.00

I bought a Heritage with both cylinders, for a little less than $200. It is not built as nice as the Ruger, but for $400 less, and only a 22, I could live with that. Mine has always been accurate, no sight adjustments needed.

thanks for all the reply. do you guys think .22 wmr would be sufficient enough for SD? I let my wife try firing 9mm and 38 pistols, and she said its too much for her. She loves the .22 lr though, and i think it's too small for SD, so i'm thinking of getting the .22wmr for her.Comment
