    Combat Style .22 LR.

I have seen the resent interest in AR, AK, MP5 style rifles in 22LR.

I know very little about them .

I want to buy one for my son.

Which in Your opinion are the VERY best options. Price is NOT a consideration ( I am sure they are all under a 1000.00

Thank You , His B-Day is in 3 weeks

If money is not an issue, have you considered an AR chambered in 22.
This will train him for someday when he has an AR chambered in a big boy round

Sig 522. I've shot most of the others and own the 522. I have not found an ammo it does not like. it shoots everything from subsonic rounds to hyper velocity rounds. love it.

CMMG Quebec with BUIS or S&W M&P 15-22. both will require BB but later you can use different 'uppers' such as 5.56 on them. both are in under the $1000.00 mark

S&W MP-22 is a great little gun. I'm at almost 6k with only a few ammo-specific issues (Remington, UGH) that occured within the first 500 rounds.

to correct you, the S&W M&P15-22 can not be converted to shoot .223

if money is no issue and you want a platform that can change as he grows, the just go the route of getting a .22lr upper (spikes, cmmg, etc) and a usual lower. then later on, just get a .223/5.56 upper.

+1 (if money were no object) otherwise, i'd get the S&W 15-22 - you'll have fun for a long time with that.

Rimfires do not require BB. Also, the S&W 15-22 is a dedicated .22 lr rifle, its lower is not standard AR and it will not accept centerfire uppers.

One more vote for the CMMG dedicated .22 Ar-15s. They're actual AR receivers, and not plastic/pot metal junk. Pretty accurate, too.

If you're looking to come close to your upper limit of $1000, Spikes Tactical's dedicated .22 upper with the Lothar Walther barrel is incredibly accurate.

Those laws only apply to centerfire rifle, not rimfire.

OP: Get a S&W MP 15-22! I have one and I absolutely love it! It eats every except Remington, but then again what does.

Sir, Please omit all of the above. They are indeed good choices, however you asked for the best choice for the ultimate cool combat .22 ... GSG-5 or go home.

Assemble your own AR lower and slap on a 22 upper ala Chiappa/CMMG/Spikes/TacSol etc, and save money for a 5.56 upper when the kid gets bigger Then it'll be a transition to a little more recoil and noise, same manual of arms.

If your budget goes as high as $1000, you really can consider getting a "real" AR lower and a dedicated .22LR upper. Spike's and CMMG are common brands to look at... but there are countless others out there...

That said... if you get a 15-22, you will have over $500 left over for ornaments to hang off the several feet of rail space you get on that rifle...

I personally went with the 15-22 for the dedicated .22. I'll take my time with the full-sized AR project over the next year or so.

That's what I did. I got the .22 to get used to the platform and them made the dive into a real AR. It actually helped me out a lot. Plus, you can run drills all day for about $20 with a .22

+1 for CMMG, their new rifles can now fully function as a 5.56. Plus side is no BB and quick switch uppers with BB and u got a center rife rife.
