    Barrel break in

Just opened the box on a 10-22 thats been in my safe for 8 years and never fired (long story). I heard, read, saw somewhere that there's a proper way to break in a barrel. Went something like, shoot so many rounds then clean the barrel, then repeat until you've fired x number of rounds. Anyone heard of this?

    Thanks John

I have heard of it. I have heard to do it from these people, I have heard its a conspiracy to wear your barrel out faster from those people. I have heard a lot, and it doesn't make sense to me at all. So I just take it out, shoot it till I get bored, take it home, clean it till I am content. Repeat.

Fire one 550 round box of Federal bulk from Wallmart through it. Pull a bore snake through it. Done.

HAHAHAHA. That is too funny. On a serious note though. Just shoot the thing till it starts having issues. Then its time to clean it.

              John,

What your describing only applies to center fired barrels. Rimfire rifles require virtually no break in period cuz accuracy is centered on the crown of the barrel insted of a center fire which is more on the bore and rifling.

No break in on rimfire. Just have fun shooting it.

Shoot as many rounds you can that day and then clean it.
