It's legal to own a high cap mag if it fell out of the sky or you find it chilling on the ground

California models come without a threaded barrel. However, you can purchase a threaded adapter which attaches via a set screw. Then screw on any standard flash hider...sell for about $10.

Possesion and use of "high caps" is perfectly legal.
Legal methods of aquisition including having one before 2000, or finding one. And yes, I said finding one.
Some have argued that is technically legal to purchase them within the state, and that it would in fact be the seller not the buyer who is violation of the law.

There are 2 different issues here. USE and ACQUISITION/IMPORTATION

As ke6guj CLEARLY stated there is no law against the usage of 10+ mags

the question is how you got the 10+ mags. It is not likely that a normal non-LEO would able to obtain these mags but that doesn't mean it is impossible.

            islandsnow,

Thank you so much for sharing the info with me, I had no idea the MOE version existed, because of you I was able to do some searching and found out more about this newest Version of the MP 15-22.

I Emailed 10 percent firearms this morning and we worked out a deal so I ordered one.

I will pay for this puppy the first year in the cost of ammo savings. Between my son and I who both have an AR-15 I bet we go thru 250- 500 rounds per month.

Now if my son does not hog the MP 15-22 all day - I am really going to have some fun shooting this gun.

^ you would think you were saving money on ammo, but for me I'm not sure its working out like that.
I find myself shooting more and more. Up to 400rds in one session with the m&p. At this rate I think I may be spending close to the ammount of cash on ammo, just shooting a lot more. I still call that a win though.

You know, you can solve that problem if you give him that one and buy a new one for yourself.

+1 to this. I have only had the thing for a week and I am already at 550 rounds and a few add on's.

what if smith/wesson shipped you a 25 round mag when they did the ejector/extractor repair? i didn't ask, order, or pay for them. it was just in the box along with the rifle. would this be considered legal acquisition of the mag?

What if I was in an airplane on my way from Arizona to Oregon, and a box of 25 round mags fell out? Why I by guilty of importing hi capacity magazines, or just littering?
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.
