I usually recommend when building a rifle to start one piece at a time checking to make sure it still works and build up from there, rather than sticking a bunch of aftermarket stuff on a gun expecting it to be perfectly fine.
Excellent advice! Avoids head pounding on the work bench.

I was trying the other school of thought. Do it all at once to minimize the number of times I open up the rifle.

I have a GM barrel on my 10/22 and it hated Federal Bulk Pack in the beginning, but not too many issues using CCI Mini-Mags. Now that it's broken in, it pretty much eats anything, but I still run into an occasional FTF/FTE issue whenever I use bulk ammo.

What's the jam? Fail to extract the fire'd round or fail to feed?

There's a round in the chamber but doesn't fire until I remove the mag. So what kind of Failure is that?

hmmm describe the trigger -- does it move at all or is it stiff. Or does the trigger pull back and nothing happens?

Typical 10-22 firing. You pull the trigger -- the hammer releases - strike the firing pin in the middle of the bolt with indents the cartridge and causes it to go off.

The only thing I can think of is the magazine is not letting the bolt get into battery fully.

              Try this.

              1) Load 2 rounds in a magazine - put magazine in with the bolt locked back.
              2) Release the bolt. Then verify the bolt is in full battery -- push the bolt handle to make sure its all the way up and there is no slack.
              3) Fire -- listen for the hammer to hit the firing pin.

if the bolt is not in full battery then pull the magazine out and see if it does now.

I know it sounds funny, but put the stock charging handle back in, and a stock trigger group if you have it. Try that. Seems like somethign is binding up.

Now that I think of it the bolt wasn't fully closing at times. What does that mean

The firing pin is in the bolt. So if the hammer doesn't hit it right and it doesn't hit a round in the chamber - nothing will happen.

Put back in stock parts and using elimination find whats causing the block to your bolt.

I would put the stock charging handle back in, i ordered a VQ one and put it in my SR-22 cause i wanted the Red handle, i was cycling the bolt after i put it together and it was binding, i put the stock one back in, it's real smooth so I'll stick to the stock one.

Is there anyway to utilize the red handle with the stock charging handle?

I think there is like a small disc at the end that keeps the handle on. I think if you remove the disk the handle can come off and you can put on a new handle.

It is a nice feature as you dont have to hold on the handle + spring when you put the assembling in to re-assemble. I have a kidd rod/spring/handle and its designed so you can swap out the spring easy to 3 different kinds as you need it.

Thanks guys. I'm taking the charging handle out tonight and going to shoot tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Ok. Just got back from the range, changed the charge handle back to stock, but its still jamming. Looks like there's a round in the chamber and a second round is slightly out of the mag. I pull the mag out and I still have to pull the charge handle again for the round to fire. I'm able to fire one round then I have to pull the mag out and pull the charge handle to fire the next. My semi has become a single shot. Any ideas?
