Granted, the 15-22 also has it's faults with the biggest being the all-polymer frame and lack of aftermarket handguard support but at least it looks like someone took some effort in the looks department. You combine this with the fact that it really does not have a true bolt-hold function, which I think is the blessing/curse of all Black Dog mags and the reason I did not go the TacSol AR route, and it puts paid to any further interest in any "tactical" 22 rifle that uses Black Dog magazines no matter how much more reliable they seem to be both in feeding and firing different kinds of 22LR ammo.

Personally, I honestly do not know why it seems to be so difficult to get a proper "tactical" 22 that functions like the centerfire version. I mean each one of the companies putting out said rifles make AR-clones themselves so it's not as if they don't know how the thing works.

I and many others would trade in our current rifles for one in a heartbeat to get a rifle like that. You hear that S&W? You put out a full-metal version of your 15-22 that takes full-size AR handguards and I'll pre-order one in a heartbeat.

Now, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to say this thing is FUGLY is crazy!! What's wrong with it? BTW, I'm glad Sig spent less time in the looks department and more in the reliability department!!

I have not seen that one yet. The only Sig that I've handled is the first one that came out and that wasn't the Swat version. The one I handled is, without a doubt, FUGLY.

I just bought this gun this past weekend. It looks much better than the "classic". I think when everyone says the 522 is hideous, they have only seen the classic... then again, the Swat version is 500+, which isn't very attractive, especially since it doesn't come with sights. I just put a 30$ walmart tasco red dot on it and it's working well so far.

BTW, I just went out shooting and shot some remington golden bullets and had a few problems.. Mainly just feeding problems, no FTF. Still, the first time I've had problems. The bullets that wouldnt feed right in my gun also wouldn't feed right into my dads ruger Mk II pistol

BTW, looks like S&W is sold out of the 10/10 magazines again since some folks are reporting getting "out of stock" postcards. Dang, that did not take long.

Anyway, someone managed to find another place that has them over at http://www.goldenstatetactical.com/swmpsh10roma.html in case you were still looking for some.

As some others have said I've not seen that one before only the Classic. When I tried one on for size to see what all of the hooptie was about it the dang thing felt about as bad as it looked. *shudder*

While the SWAT one you posted a pic of does look a bit better the phrase "lipstick on a pig" instantly comes to mind. The thing is just too frigging blocky for what a rifle should look like. Think about it, Ruger 10/22, Remington 700, AR platform, Winchester 1892, Colt Peacemaker, heck even the 1911 ALL had CURVES in them. None of this blocky go to Lego or Osh to figure out how many wood or Lego blocks to get and some grey and black spraypaint to cover them with.

I'll make exceptions for things with angles, like a 1985 Toyota Supra, but not with my toys that go bang.

I'd go with the 15-22 hands down. Everything like it functions just like an AR. The internals are all most identical to a real AR. If you're looking for something that performs like an AR then get the 15-22. I love mine. I've put over 7,000 rounds through mine with only a few "mag snags". Other than that this rifle is awesome.

Sig is ugly? LOL ok I own an ugly gun and my GSG-5PK is just a plain eye sore too. One of the reasons I bought the Sig was because it didn't look like a Colt, straight out of the Vietnam war. I will admit the SWAT version of the Sig doesn't do it for me but the classic 522, I mean really.

Not so sure about the others on your list but the Sig is so easy to clean it's not even funny.

Most reliable one of these isn't on your list, the SR-22. I also own a SR-22 eye sore as well. I wouldn't sell any of my ugly tacticool .22's.

chad, the reason I didn't consider the SR-22, is that if I'm not mistaken, it is basically the 10/22 with a Nordic kit for a lot more money. I bought a Marlin 795 to teach the grandkids, so really don't want to spend a lot of money for a gussied up 10-22. Plus, I didn't say anything about that rifle and don't think it looks ugly at all.

In a different vein, I was at Raahauge's gun fair today (worked the Calguns booth) and went to the Turners store they had set up. The sales guy advised me the mags for the Sig cost $40. Are any of you who have the Sig finding them any cheaper.

The guy at the Smith booth says they have caught with production on the long mags and should be caught up in a month on the short ones. He also said there will be a new model out in a couple of months that will be about $600. It will have a Magpul stock, two pop up sights, an ambi sling ring and the muzzle break. I believe there was one more thing, but I can't recall what it was. He showed me a pic of it in their catalogue.

That's good to hear since those 10/10 magazines sell like hotcakes whenever anyone finds out about them. I really think they should have shipped the 15-22 with those first and THEN put out the 10/25 and 25/25 magazines at a later date. Then they could have shipped the same two rifles all across the U.S., well except in N.Y. who has that stupid stock law, and not had to worry about carrying FOUR different SKU's for just cosmetic things.

As far as the rifle he's describing that sounds like the 15-22 MOE model 811034 that I've got. I've attached a little picture of the flyer for it and chances are it will come stock with a 10/25 magazine and be released under a different model number. The reason for this being is since the 811034 I got had to have the 25-round magazine swapped out, which the guys over at BAGV were kind enough to do for me, before I took ownership of mine.

I have the GSG5 ive never had any problems with it that weren't ammo related (Winchester). I only use Federal 550 in it. Always fires and extracts no problems. Only bad thing I would say is striping it down to clean. If i were to buy all over again I wouldn't hesitate although I might give the Sig 522 a shot

I'm gonna be the one eejit here that recommends something not on your list. Seriously, for the price, buy a 10/22 and put some tech sights on it. It'll work better and last longer than any of those tacticool toy-gun options, and if you're at a range full of Fudds, they won't laugh at you.

However, if you must must choose one of these options, I tend to like the GSG-5. It's got a very nice trigger, and it's the least plasticky and garish of the lot. It works most of the time, and it's reasonably accurate. Sights are nice. When I feel like being a make believe operator I get a little bit of boyish glee every time I do the cocking handle "H&K slap" on it, which is a functional part of the gun, which I like.

Ladyfox, that is the model. How were you able to buy it if I might ask, since the Smith guy said it wouldn't be for a couple of months. Perhaps he didn't know what he was talking about.

You have two options open to you in order to get one:

                              a. Find an out-of-state FFL that will order one for you and either ship it without a magazine or swap the magazine out with a 10/25 or 10/10 magazine and have it sent to your local in-state toy shop.

                              b. Wait until S&W actually ships the model here (providing the guy you spoke to wasn't mistaken in some way) with PRK-compliant 10/25 or 10/10 magazines.

Myself, I went down to my favorite shop at BAGV and asked if they could order me one which they gave an affirmative to and made arrangements to have the magazine swapped out with a 10/25 before it got here. So after putting down a deposit for them to order it, taking advantage of their Tax Day sale to boot so I only had to pay the DROS, I just waited a few weeks and took my baby home.

Still in the process of getting some different flavors of ammo so I've not had a chance to shoot mine yet. But, rest assured, that time is coming and I look forward to spending all-day down at the range seeing what ammo works best.

I didnt read this thread, but look at a ruger sr-22. Its not the same bolt or even body, but it feels like an AR in your hands. Mine has never misfired and I couldnt be happier with it. I would either do that or go with a dedicated upper(even though its more expensive). Including the gun, Ive put over $1000 on the SR-22 but LOVE it.

I couldnt buy a S&W .22 just because it felt(and performs) like a toy.... Talk about major problems with nearly 50% of them!
