Walmarts False Economy

I was at walmart today to buy a brick of 22lr. They had over 110 boxes of Remington green box in stock alone, not to mention about that much of winchester, and alot of cci plastic box also. They are still limiting ammo, I asked for the manager to explain the situation, and that its somewhat dishonest to limit ammo, when there is in fact no shortage. The clerk said at first, that they didnt have a manager -he was on vacation, then later stated that the asst managers were at lunch. After the runaround, that department manager showed up. He said that people were 'hoarding it' still, as well as the other usual reasons. I told him that most of the other stores are now well stocked(like basspro), and that ammo is available online. I told him that its not quite honest to limit the ammo, knowing that the ammo case is full and the supply chain is caught up. Maybe we all need to complain about this, its bull and is really a cute little retail tactic to increase foot traffic in their stores.

They are a private company and can do what they want.......as can you. Go buy it somewhere else if you don't like the way they treat you. (off course it will cost more) You sound like one of the Walmart hating union members

Wow, you are a lucky man. I haven't bought much .22lr from walmart in over a year, and thats because all I have found is a few 333 packs. Yesterday I went and they had nothing, god they dont even have the price stickers on the shelves for half the .22lr they used to carry. Where I am at there is still very much a shortage.

You cannot fault a company for trying to ensure all their customers get something. Maybe another store has lots of stock, but obviously Walmart still cannot keep stocked.

Indeed. Perhaps the reason his particular Wal-Mart has lots of ammo on the shelves is because they limit sales.

I wish I could complain about Walmart limiting ammo sales despite plentiful supplies in my area. As it is, I'm lucky to find any bulkpacks during my early morning excursions. Haven't been able to buy CCI minimags for a month now. What wasn't helping was other retailers were going in and buying up all the boxes from Walmart and then reselling it at a higher markup, which was happening before Walmart started limiting how many boxes a individual could buy. At least now I have a chance at finding something and saving a few dollars.

Consider yourself lucky. Where I am, it's still hard to find a lot of different handgun ammo, including .22 LR.

My Wal-Mart had exactly 2 handgun calibers of ammo in stock, 1 box of .40 S&W and about 20 boxes of 9mm. No .22 LR at all.

Thing is, my local Big 5 isn't much better off. Sure they got shotgun shells up the whazoo, but hardly any handgun ammo other than 9mm.

Ammo still can be tough to find. I think rationing is still appropriate for those stores that practice it.

All you have to do is walk out to your car with the first batch and then walk right in to buy more.They sold my wife 12 boxes of .45 ammo on one purchase.They don't really give to ****es! Just talk nice to the Walmart people with respect and they will take care of you.

There's nothing wrong with a store using a product as a loss leader to increase foot traffic, it's a very routine approach. If that item happens to be one often in short supply then purchase limits are appropriate, entirely up to them and I don't think being honest or dishonest has anything to do with it.

If you disapprove of their policy the best thing to do is not shop there, if enough people vote with their wallets they may change policy.

I assume given the experience and disagreement with their policy that you left without buying - again, that's the way to change things. Complaining but still putting $$$ in their cash register doesn't change anything, I think.

My post didnt have anything to do with unions -reread it, I am also not drinking their Koolaide either. When their cases are full of ammo, I want to buy some. In 2/2011 when the fingerprint/registration kicks in, I am sure that this limit on ammo will really be even more fun that now since we will have no options -at least we can order online.

SO, they will sell you some.....Just not what you want. We have had Ammo registration before. It was not that big a deal and this time it is only in the state (last time it was federal). If you are so worried about registration spend the money and buy it somewhere else before the law comes into effect. There are lots of places to buy Ammo........Midway will sell you all you want. Why single out Walmart? The state already forced them to quit selling guns, with guys like you ammo will be next because it isn't worth the hassle. Every box that you don't buy someone else has a chance to. Walmart haters are usually promoted by union members that can't compete in the marketplace. They picketed the Stockton Super Store for months......I loved driving through the pickets!!!!!
