Can anyone tell me about this "AR"?

My father calls me and says he is looking at a 22lr ar clone at big five. Here it is in their ad, and basically he wants me to do the foot work for him. I have no idea who manufacturers it as well as quality. I can't find any info on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Manufactured for Colt by an airsoft company I believe. If you do a quick search you should find plenty of answers.

I wouldn't really call this an AR, but if I were to purchase a ".22 clone" I would go with the following:

      S&W

      OR

      SIG

it's made by colt and umarex (on gun genie you can find it under the umarex name). i've read reviews and they seem like good guns. all metal. they have the m4 and m16 versions, but big 5 only has a sale on the m4 i guess. if your dad's got 600 buck and an urge for a kick a** plinker, this is a great choice

Yeah if you look around you'll find a better price than that if you're set on the Colt/Umarex.

Colt licensed Umarex (airsoft company) to make them a .22LR M4 Carbine clone.
Umarex contracted Walther to make it for them.

So, it's a Colt/Umarex/Walther hybrid that internal is not compatible with the AR system. It does not dissassemble like an AR as well. Only the furniture is compatible with the AR system.

The S&W M&P-15/22 is more akin to the AR system than the Colt/Umarex/Walther hybrid.

should consider a real AR with a 22lr kit, not to much more, and there are some great deals to be had.

                    Doesn't UMAREX own WALTHER?

Then there's the issue of the 5.56 barrel being a larger diameter than .22lr, resulting in accuracy that isn't so hot, which leads people to build dedicated .22lr uppers.

If he already has an AR, I would recommend he buy a dedicated .22lr upper for it.

If he doesn't already have an AR, guide him towards buying/building one, and then get him to pick up a dedicated .22lr upper for it, at the same time.

I don't get the need for a dedicated .22lr rifle, that looks sort of like an AR.

I like the idea of the Ruger 10/22 for a dedicated .22lr rifle.

If you are still interested in these Onpoint has the AR style and they just came out with the HK style .22lr clones...

Yeah after careful consideration He is just going to build a dedicated 22lr rifle. Guess I have alot more research ahead of me.

Spikes makes a .22 upper that looks good. One of the sight sponsors makes a good one, I forget their name, they make Ruger pistol barrels too.

If you go cheap on the accessories you won't spend much more than one of the clones and you can add a centerfire upper later.
