Will the 22 tacticool trend be short lived?

well..i had a gsg... i sold it, and now i'm almost done building a sick volk tuned 10/22 (barrel, trigger group, other parts).... the gsg was fine @ 25-50 yards, but I didnt feel a year from now with 5000 rounds through it that it would so well... I have no doubt my 10/22 will last the rest of my life with few parts here and there. depends what your goals are..this will hit 100 yards accurately.

You you can trick out those 10/22's pretty nice. I was shooting my GSG against my friends stock ruger 10/22, and accuracy was pretty close @ 100 yards using the same ammo (federal bulk). We both got the rifles about the same time.

guessing you didn't see the threads on arfcom where some of those guys got like over 10k rounds in theirs and only 1 had a major issue... he cracked the bolt, in which ATI sent him a new one for free in exchange for the cracked one

It is not fair to compare a GSG5 to a 10-22. The GSG5 is an expensive toy that I'm guessing is going to start crapping out just beyond 20K rounds. !0-22s are the most reliable and modular semi-auto .22lr on the market. I'm not planning on selling my GSG5 anytime soon but, I'm not parting with my 3 10-22s, WASR22, Carbon22 upper or any other .22 any time soon. BTW, my GSG is surprisingly accurate and percise. I'm guessing it's shooting about 3moa with factory irons and me behind the trigger. That's offhand by the way. Not as good as some of my other .22s but, I didn't buy it to pick off flys at 50 yards. I have other tools to do that.

As long as there are teen and twentysomethings making minimum wage, there will always be a market for low cost firearms that mimic the looks of actual combat firearms.

It might be but then .... I'm certainly not a teen or twentywhatever, but I do love rimfires. I really have no need to build an OLL AR/AK. If I were going that route I'd probably spend the money on a quality hunting rifle and scope, or a 1911. However, I AM considering the S&W or Ruger down the road. My rimfire addiction and the fact that, for fun, I could buy one and shoot all day is interesting to me (prime market material I am, eh?). I'm not in any hurry, but I have no doubts I will be considering one very hard down the road. I'm leaning towards the Ruger since it can share w/ my 10/22 (again, marketing fodder - smart business).

Majority of people like the aesthetics of tactical weapons...check.

.22lr rifles and ammo will always be cheaper than majority of more types of rifles. Because of this many people will own these types of firearms; plus they are the perfect training rifles.
Lots of people are also infatuated with tactical. Why? Probably because of the movies and video games that they will never experience in real life, and owning a tacticool rifle will be as close as most will ever get.

Owning a tacticool .22 is just an cheap and convenient way of fulfilling their fantasies. Is it a bad thing? Not at all. I believe it is sound to say that we can deduce that tacticool .22s will never disappear unless there are laws to force people to prevent them from owning such weapons. Lucky son of a gun. The only .22 I can find in my area is the more expensive quality ammunition. If I could find that cheap value pack garbage, I'd be buying and shooting it all day long. We don't use semi's and only plink so feeding issues or accuracy mean zip to us. I just went on my first ammo run to Walmart but left because they only had CCI and some Winchester. Even in the world of .22, can ammunition be too expensive.

I have X to the power of a zillion more .22lr than the Walmarts I visited this weekend (which was 2 stores, ZIP ZERO .22lr on the shelves).

I went this weekend and picked up two 550rd Federal boxes. They had at least 10 or so

BTW, I have a love hate relationship with Bakersfield. Its the little Texas of CA, and I get to go shooting and hunting within 15 minutes of my home. Plus everyone here is conservative. If not you don't fit in here.
