I'd be interested to see how this shakes out.

IIRC, he did have some issue w/ a broken firing pin, but I'm assuming most D22Us will have issues of that sort.

I just bought a TacSol M4 upper, and it, too, is a great quality upper. When I ordered the un-notched hammer from them, I went ahead and ordered their little D22U emergency kit (c-clips, springs, and firing pin) as well.

I foresee epic Spike's vs. TacSol AR-22 battles over at ASR's silhouette range in the near future....

I have had maybe 10 FTE and 1 FTF with my Spikes out of about 1000 rounds fired. Whatever teething issues they had with the early models they must have fixed in the newer ones. I love my Spikes and can say enough good things about .... in fact my only complaint is now I go thru a ton of 22 ammo because its so much fun.

I'd love to recommend Spike's since that is what I use, but their Nickel bolt is really hit or miss. I've seen more jammed Spikes with the Nickel bolts than I have working Spikes uppers. If you come across the pre-nickel bolt uppers, snag it.

TacSol is a good solution currently.

"Accurate 22s" are like pretty girls from Arkansas, I've always heard about them but have never seen one for myself.

Seriously, if I can hit a soda can at 30 yards I'm pretty happy with any .22lr rifle.

I have a Spikes ST-22 that I like, but what I love is Spike's support and customer service. The one I got had a flaw in the barrel. I sent it back and had a brand new upper in about a week.

It's far more accurate than my stock 10/22 and has been a great rifle to have as I've watched .223 prices climb.

    Spikes is good, IMO.

I guess it depends what you are going to use the 22 upper for.

I don't have any experience with "plinkers" but if you want the ultimate accuracy out of the 22 AR upper, go with Compass Lake Engineering.

Frank White is well known AR-15 community and he is considered one of the best AR-15 guys out there.

It will cost you more than $1K and the wait can be fairly long.
I don't think you can find any more accurate 22LR upper for AR-15.
But, a lot of service rifle competitor and long range shooters use Compass Lake Engineering's 22 upper for their practice.

I will third this. I have also been thinking of getting a dedicated 22LR Ar style so any recommendations would be nice.
