Based on this link I was all set to purchase a Henry AR7. I went to the local store I frequently shop at to order one as I trust the owner and he isn't all that concered w making a sale to me. He told me the last several he has sold all had problems and wouldn't reccomend the AR7. He suggested I go w a Marlin Papoose. I trust him and he's done me good over the years. So, I'm now inclined to go w either a Papoose or a 22 LR, shotgun combo.

What about a 10/22 with a folding stock & preban mags?

The 10/22 with a folding stock is compact and reliable but not light weight.

I perfer the 20 gauge becuase it still can have some serious puch with slugs, OO buck, etc.

The 10/22 with a folding stock is compact and reliable but not light weight.

That looks like one of mine except I've got a FH and silver colored optics and rings. It's my plinker, fun, go to 10-22.

Henry or Marlin .22lr lever action, .22lr pistol as back up for all the ammo.

Then either a .357 revolver or glock 17 with a few prebans just incase bigger critters come my way, especially the 2 legged variety. Mind you I'm only thinking of just getting away from the bigger critters, not a full on fire fight.

When we are talking about the AR-7 are we talking about the Charter Arms or the Henry Repeating Arms versions? I've read that the Charger Arms version has "consistency" issues. Has anyone found the Henry AR-7 more reliable? Any comments? My decision is coming down to the Marlin Papoose or the Henry AR-7.

Are you walking? If you are, and you try to carry something for every situation, we'll follow you by the trail of abandoned gear. A S&W Airweight .22LR revolver like the 317 is probably the most I'd consider carrying for that purpose if I were afoot. That and a box of ammo wouldn't weigh much or take up much space.

That being said, if I could take it with me, my KT-22 would do the job, so would a Ciener kit for my AR. I'd have to flip a coin.

What about a marlin 795 with tech sights and an ATI stock? That's what I'd carry.

My 30+ year old Charter Arms AR-7 runs like a train. Add the 25 rd magazine to the OEM 8 rd, and I'm good to go....

That's a copy of the Winchester I recommended. I have heard that the Taurus can have problems though.
