Cheapest single shot

I can't speak for OP, but I'd love to "get a set" of single shot 22's for Scouts BSA rifle outings. Rifle outings are always an all-hands-on-deck camp weekend, no kid misses it!
@$100 a pop, I could get 10 for $1000 (plus fees, I know). @ $150, I'm at 6 for $900. I could stretch the shooting line much farther for less money.
In my case, it'll never happen. I think the days of troops having their own set of rifles is long gone in CA (metro). And it would be kind of ghetto besides to have a mish-mash of different 22's, not that any of the scouts would care one iota about that!
Anyways, my guess is OP wants single shot for a youth.Comment

I agree with most of the boys up above . Buy used , buy American wood and steel.Sooo many amazing vintage single shots of all types were made by the 100’s of thousands.Break action , falling block , lever action and bolt guns can be had for under $180 bucks all you need to do is put foot to pavement and hunt’em up.Im in Ventura County and no matter what store I go into there’s usually a Rifle to fit your bill and budget and keep you clear of buying something new with less quality of manufacturing. My late buddy Joey swore by a single shot lever action Ithaca and I always gravitate to a Stevens mini falling block in 22 short , both bought at local gun shops for under $150 dollars.Comment

Or once a thread goes toxic, leave… I wouldn’t blame OP for that. I do that too from time to time when my motivations would just muddy the topic. Once people start getting uncivil it snowballs…
Anyways I’m still betting youth because thats often consistent with bolt action. Otherwise there are other good options, break action, etc.Comment

A Cricket, a Rascal?
Even a carbine or rifle barrel for TC Contender will cost more than $200 unless you find a cheap used one. I have a 10” bull but sure wish I bought a 21” back then. The wise man said just find your place

Or the little badger... Real world price likely 175.00 ish

This was $110 new pre covid (2018) from Dick's. 20ga/22lr combo. The scope ($30) and recoil pad ($15) were extra. 22lr packs a wallop in a light gun. Oh, just remembered it was $129 list reduced to $110 because the orange fiber optic rod was broken. That was another $6 to get replacement rods.

Screw that, my Opa (took Iwo Jima) started me with an M1 Garand in the deer meadow out front of the house. We were not to shoot near the Winnebago when Oma was inside.
In Westchester County NY.
He also had a 105mm recoilless at the top of the driveway. Pretty sure he had ammo for it out in the barn.
