I am in my late 50's so I am not that young, but I think I have 10 or 15 more good years of collecting left in me before I think of liquidating or thinning my collection. Then my heirs can fight about what is left or simply sell it all.

I passed on one for $550 a few months pre-world changing events of 2019. I gave the info to a friend and he grabbed it up in a few minutes. When he brought it over a week later, I knew I had messed up. Now, I really know I goofed!

Ugh. $900 for a cherry 39A is in reality a decent price these days.

Definitely one of the big regrets I've had as a gun collector was selling my 1963 model. I got it from Martin B Retting back when I used to live right around the corner in Palms many moons ago, they had two on their rack each for about $400 back then.

Sold it a number of years later for only about $500 as that was the going rate for them. My rationale was "It's just a .22" or something like that. Youth and stupidity are a bad combo.

If you look closely at the photos, the 1st link (octagon barrel) the receiver is not drilled/tapped for a scope mount.
The second link (1998 vintage) is drilled/tapped for a mount.
But who puts a scope on a lever rifle anyways?

First one seems to be an older model, no hood on the front sight.

Second one is brand new old stock, never been sold, has original box and papers (1998 JM vintage). This one is pretty rare, nice checkered lumber also.

I see the front sight doesn't have the grooves for the hood anyway. I find them (hood) very useful for protecting the front sight when I lean the rifle in the corner (only for a short time when looking for something else in the safe).

First one is a 1941. I don't know when they changed the front sight, but my 1950 has a hood.

Yeah those days are over..I just bought a project 1954 Mounty..At 450.00 delivered........ I still did not think it was that bad of a deal..Should still be a good shooter with some clean up..

Do I doubt that there are nice ones out there yet for 3 to 400.00..No, but it will be rare to snag one for that these days..

In my opinion, the 39 Golden is the perfect lever action .22. The TDS was a neat little carbine, 39 was a little long but the Golden is a fantastic rifle. Congratulations!!
