First, I want to say that I believe the Marlin 39A Golden is one of the finest, well-built and accurate.22 lever actions ever made. I’ve owned several……but not as nice as the one I saw at a gun shop in Sacramento. 1978 model. Not a scratch or mark on it. Probably the nicest 39A I’ve ever seen. But I was shocked at the price. $900. Maybe that’s the market for a 39A Golden in this condition.

If what you say that it’s shoots great and is one of the most accurate you’ve shot and it’s beautiful on top of that.
It’s worth the price you paidComment

Funny these 39A's came up. I just gave mine[1957] a wipe down and have it sitting next to the table here. They are wonderful .22 leverguns.

Perplexed? No. A bit surprised, yes. I haven’t seen very many in the past 5 years. Most I’ve seen were in the $500-$650 range. But, all of my S&W revolvers have doubled, and then some, in price since I bought them. Again, it’s not like every gs has a 39A on their gun rack. Regardless of the price I plan on buying this one.Last edited by Bull Elk; 07-17-2022, 1:38 PM.Comment

From my experience, 39s have always been a bit more than a 336. People are asking $700-800 for the 336Ws that were $380 at Walmart 3 years ago.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I bought a fairly nice 39m (1980 model) for $450 in January. Wasn't in the market for a new rifle or a 22, but at that price it was a no brainer. Best firearm purchase I've ever made. I like the mounties better personally, still holds 15 and a little handier.
While I get the appeal of a really nice one, a 39 is a rifle I am going to shoot. A lot. So I'd rather have a reasonable one I won't feel bad about the occasional ding. I know some folks here say that 22s get boring, but I always have a smile on my face when I'm holding my 39.Comment

I paid 550.00 OTD for the previous one I mentioned a few years ago that I sold at 1000.00
Older Marlins will always be a solid investments for the future..Even if you think you are paying too much now..I have never bought a older Marlin that has not doubled in value, in some cases..As much as quadrupled..Comment

Bought mine new for $127.00 in 1977 (I wouldn't take $1000.00 for it today). Here are a couple of picture showing that I softened the edges of the trigger and lever and had them refinished (trigger 24 kt gold plated, lever deep blue). These were hard as a rock and it took me forever to do this.

There are boat loads on GunBroker right now.
I’d recommend anyone looking for a great shooter, jump on one of these ASAP.
