If you can come up some then a Browning SA-22 is a great 22LR for plinking.. they're just a beautiful semi auto 22. And again you don't need mags ....

It's kind of like holding a broom stick.

I've got way too many 22s. This is my last 22 purchase and probably my favorite...

people keep saying the 10/22 will eventually cost a bundle of cash to up grade.
Easy fix: buy a basic 10/22 and DON'T UP-GRADE. Box stock and shoot the bejabbers out of it. Speaking of shooting, you have ammo for this .22lr quest?
BTW, golfish's idea of a lever gun/no mags to worry about is solid advice.

I don't think I've ever taken my 10/22 out with the MLC crew. The only thing that I did to mine was put a wood stock on it. Its probably my least favorite 22 that I own. I'm not knocking it, I just don't really like it, especially the mags.

Was at the LGS in Granite Bay a couple weeks ago; they had a nice selection of older used 22lr's.

I still shoot my Dad's well used Mossberg 142A from the early 1950's. It outshoots my basically stock bicentennial 10/22 all day long.

A new 10/22 with the birchwood stock is +-$380. That's what you want.

Thank you very much for everyone's input and suggestions.

Still haven't made a decision, but and now my decision is even harder because of all the great suggestions you've all made.

The CZ 457 American looks like a really nice rifle. My question is, despite the name, where is this rifle made?

Czech Republic and/or Kansas I believe.

Edit: caliber change on the 457 would be really handy for small game hunting with lead free ammo. A really compelling choice that I often stare at.

Do you like that stock? I have looked at that one for a couple of years just never quite liked the look but seems about the only aftermarket available for the 60

IIRC imported Czech made. Markings stamped on the barrel.

Plenty of .22LR ammo available at the moment and will begins stocking up. Waaaaaay cheaper than the 9mm and 12g shotgun ammo I have stockpiled.

Consider the Henry Golden Boy .22LR. It's very well made and mine is super accurate, better than my other .22's. Outside the Long Ranger, it's Henry's most accurate rifle and a joy to shoot.

Plus you look great shooting it.

I enjoy all my .22's........so many to chose from, enjoy shopping.

Ruger Take Down , or go for basic models which you can find in most local Big5 stores.

And if your lucky one day, just add the Ruger internal suppressed barrel.
