    10/22 trigger job

So I went to break in my new Ruger 10/22 the other day and other then not being able to zero in my scope, I noticed that the trigger was super stiff. I know that there are a bunch of aftermarket trigger packages out there, but I was wondering which ones would you guys choose for plinking? Now I know when it comes to upgrades you don't want to be cheap, but I am about to loose my job ( 90 day temp) and I really don't have a bunch of $ to spend, but if I can come up on some extra cash or there is a good trigger group out there at a lower cost I would like to pick one up. Thanks

Switch to a Volsquartsen HAMMER and you're done.

I agree. Trigger pull was reduced to 2.5 pounds for me with a VQ hammer kit (but retaining the factory spring)

I got my new trigger down to a little over three pounds by polishing everything. Also put a set screw to stop overtravel and eliminated pre travel with a little JB weld. All diy work and its great. Totally free.

Buy the Volquartsen stuff as recommended and you'll be fine.

I have a KIDD trigger and love it but if I were to do it all over again, I would have gone with the VQ parts and saved about $200.

I recommend the VQ hammer as well.

A warning to you... if you do polish/work your original hammer, be very careful about taking too much off. basically, you'll be tempted to stone and polish the surface of the hammer and slightly smooth out the lip that catches on the sear. I did this as well. Just a little... the result--- when placing the rifle on /off safety, it would fire! the safety will barely nudge the hammer, but just enough to let it fly. but... it did get the pull down to about 4.25 lbs. Just didnt know about the accidental discharge until an embarrassing ( and dangerous) moment at the range.

I bought the VQ after that and love it.

Hey guys, I am checking this out, is it worth it to get the sear and the hammer? Or is just getting the VQ hammer good enough?

www.coolguyguns.com Tony kid is the MAN when it comes to triggers. Its uber expensive like a geissele for an AR but its worth every penny if you're really trying to get a tack driver 10/22. After feeling one of these, I wish all guns could have a trigger like this. Bar none the best trigger i've ever felt.

You can polish all engagement and rubbing surfaces safely. Don't take a stone to the hammer unless you know what you are doing. I've got mine to three pounds five ounces just polishing and a tiny bit of sharpening with a diamond stone. You gotts be careful. And you have to constantly put it all back together to test function

The hammer gives most of the improvement. The sear adds some extra improvement, but the bang for the buck comes from the hammer, so it depends on your budget.

If you're looking to build a tack driver, purchase either the entire Volquartsen trigger pack, or the KIDD. The KIDD is more expensive, and worth it. But the Volquartsen will save you a little money.

If you're just looking for a plinker and want to save some money and get rid of the nasty factory trigger, spend the 50 bucks and get the Volquartsen hammer/sear kit.

Also, get the automatic bolt release and install it at the same time. That way you only have to disassemble your trigger group once. The auto bolt release is worth every penny.

In the grand scheme of things these mods are pretty cheap, since the 10/22 is a lifetime gun.
