Browning 1911 .22 Full size version

I've been thinking about adding a .22 pistol back into the fold, but I'm not really interested in Ruger Mk's or Buckmarks, etc. Ruger SR-22's and M&P 22's don't come up often enough. I used to own a Sig Mosquito and while it was fine for a day of introducing newbies to the hobby, it wasn't something I felt like shooting otherwise. I had a Beretta 89 GS which was one bad mammajamma, which I sold for some reason I can't remember.

I thought I'd refresh my familiarity with the roster and the Browning 1911-22 A1 is still on there but a 'full size' version has been added. I was never interested in the one that is 15% smaller, but a full size would do the trick.

Anyone held or shot this full size version? Asking before I start looking for some quotes at the LGS's.

GSI and I think it's Sig I believe are full size 1911. Or maybe Kimber? There's also kits to convert 1911.

I liked the Browning, but the sights were atrocious and no/extremely limited aftermarket sight options.

The Browning is still the 85% size...it's the "Government full size", they also have the "Commander compact" which has a shorter slide.

If you want a full size 1911 then either a GSG or a conversion kit on your own 1911 frame.

It's too bad the CA Roster limits us to these two models, there are other models with bigger sights, beavertail safety and all the other goodies available in other states.

I bought the GSG 1911 at Turners on sale. It's picky about ammo. 1400 fps or more jams. It loves Federal AutoMatch, Champion, Gold Match and Aguila 1250 fps. Armscor 36 grain hollow point are very accurate. Only 3 cpr from Target Sports.

I never shot a full sized 1911 22, but I have the GSG 922CA and it has not had a jam yet, but I think I Have only shot CCI Mini-Mag sliders through it. Probably the Solids and HP's. Usually Mini-Mags work in everything, Golden Bullets also are very reliable. I have shot less and less Federal rimfire over the years but do have a stash of the bulk packs and maybe one can of AutoMatch (do not like that stuff much) but I bet my 10/22 still feeds it fine.

If you want a Full Size 1911 in 22 and a show piece, there is a Colt Ace 1911 in 22 but its some 10x cost more GSG version.

The browning 1911/22 is nice, but kind of a novelty.
Kimber makes a 22 conversion slide as well, BTW.

The GSG is a blast to shoot. Magazines are expensive but the pistol can be had cheap. It is real fun to shoot and is pretty accurate. Worth the money and has weight near of a true 1911. Kimberly pistol is aluminum and light while the GSG is zinc and is weighted correctly.

I have about 400 rounds through the GSG. Hyper Maximun Aguila at 1750 fps jams. So does XX Winchester. Rem Golden bullets work ok, poor accuracy.

So far the best accuracy has been Philp made Armscor 36 grain hollow point. It's also the cheapest .22lr you can buy at 3 cents.
