Bought a couple 1000 rounds of the Federal/Champion 36gr CPHP when Sportsmans Warehouse had it on sale. Ran a couple 100 rounds through my new Buck Mark recently and it didn't like it very well with FTE, FTF, and some stovepipes. Had a number of rounds that sounded like the powder charge was less than full power. The difference in the report was such that I cleared the pistol each time and checked the barrel for squibs. Tried CCI MiniMags and function was 100%.Originally posted by Sierra57Civil War 2.0 - If it comes to pass, the America-hating Leftists will have brought it upon themselves. I use that federal bulk ammo a lot.
It’s the most reliable ammo for the .22 I own and doesn’t jam, like many other, when the wife and kids shoot.
I have had mixed success with the Winchester bulk, 222, 333, or 555.
The Federal AutoMatch doesn't seems to work for me.
Mini Mags always work great.
I’m gonna try the Aguila next.Last edited by sirgrumps; 04-21-2019, 10:00 AM.?The constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not a ?second-class right,? subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees.? ?.. ^^^ This.
I don't think you'll be disappointed. Works really well for me. Always go bang."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.

I use CCI MiniMags in my Single Six. Accuracy is excellent, and I've not noticed any light loads, or misfires.
For those that shoot .22WMR, the CCI 40 gr HP work great.
I have not tried Win or Federal, since CCI works so well for me.

It ain't match ammo and it's a bit deceiving having a bulk box of loose bullets have the name "match" in it when their disclaimer is that it "matches" autoloading rimfire 22's.
However, compared to the recent Federal bulk 550 red box of bullets, there is a marked difference.
I bought lots bulk Federal 525 and 550 packs thinking I'd be set for a long time. In fact I was more that set to weather the rimfire drought without having to wait in long lines at Sportsmans or Wally World on delivery days.
Lately I've been getting back into shooting 22's for accuracy and seeing how good I can shoot at 50 feet and 25-50 yards offhand. First I had to make sure my guns and ammo were good enough to make me the weakest link in the accuracy department. The ammo wasn't up to task.
First. Marlin 924 at 25 yards with a BSA Sweet 22 3-9x40 scope on sandbags
Top 2 targets are Federal bulk 550's bottom 2 are CCI std velocity

At 50 feet with my 1986 Ruger 10/22 and a Tasco 3-7x20 BB gun scope temporarily on the gun for these tests, here are my test targets with Federal 550 bulk, Federal Lightning (50 round box stuff), 325 count AutoMatch and CCI Std Vel. With the 10/22, the Auto Match was slightly better than the CCI Std Vel.

Back at 25 yards with the 10/22, the Federal Auto Match still beat out the Federal Lightning and CCI Std Vel (lower right) and the Federal Bulk.

So it looks like my 924 bolt rifle likes the CCI's the most and the 10/22 likes the Auto Match at least good enough so my offhand shooting will show my inaccuracies more than the gun/ammo.
Stock open sights at 50 feet
Targets 1,4 and 5 are sitting with my left elbow resting on the table, the rest are standing. Not great but a good start for Appleseed practice.
Bottom line: The Federal bulk stuff is "good enough" for plinking like shooting soda cans at 25-50 yards while standing but if you are scoring your shots the ammo is important enough to make a difference and you don't need real "match grade" ammo to shoot well with stock Big 5 quality guns.
With my S&W 22A-1, the Federal Auto Match shoots as accurately as the CCI Std Vel but with considerably more power which is not necessary when target shooting but at 5.5 cents/round it's better than the CCI's which are > 7 cents a round. Federal also has a rebate where you get a free box for every 5 boxes you buy while CCI has one free box for every 10 boxes you buy. The rebate ends 3/31 and ammo registration starts a few of months after that so I'm stocking up for several years or at least until I can move out of this "state of insanity" (CA).Comment
