Marlin 795 thread

I just noticed that my 795 is gouging three strips on the next bullet in the mag while it is chambering a round. Did do something to cause this? Is this okay? Should I do anything to fix it? Here are some pics

My friend brought his Remington 597 out today when we went shooting. His was doing that because the spring in the mag wasn't pushing the rounds up all the way (catching), causing the bolt to scrape over the top of the bullet.

Thanks. Apparently that is not a very common size. I found 2 more sets in the garage and neither had it. I got out my Torx screwdriver set and found one that worked. In case anyone else has this problem the bit that worked was the T25.

I'm very glad I decided to do this before firing the gun for the first time. There were small flakes and powdery black stuff all over every part inside that I can only assume came from the manufacturing of the plastic parts of the gun. Is it typical that guns are not cleaned out before they hit the shelves, or was this just a freak thing?

I just bought a a marlin 795 about a month ago, cleaned it prior to shooting the first time after reading through this thread. Seems pretty normal to me, manufacturing residue and what not.

It was sort of interesting taking it appart for the first time, since the directions still say a flat head when a torx was needed.

Recently bought a Marlin 795 and wanted to break it down and clean and oil it before first use, but I have a problem. In order to remove the trigger assembly it seems that Marlin switched from using screws than need a flat head screwdriver, to ones that require a hex wrench. My problem is, that I have tried every hex wrench on two different full sets and nothing works. Anyone know what size hex wrench I'm supposed to be using?

I bought a Savage 64f and tried every .22lr cartridge possible and still jammed 90% of the mag. So I got fed up and was able to return it and picked up a Marlin. Hopefully I get better luck with the Marlin. 9 days to go!

hi y'all!

i know folks are doing mighty fancy things with their marlins, but i just wanted to peep in on this thread cuz i just got my marlin (and very first gun ever) just this week in hopes of going to the appleseed at chabot (bay area). only thing is, i'm completely brand new... that is, i don't know if i gotta clean this thing before i shoot it or how to do that or how to treat it right. i wish i had friends who went shooting, but alas i'm the only one of my buddies to take an interest (so far).

i've ordered the tech sights and got a 989M2 stock for it... haha, i just don't know how to use it!

any suggestions, links to info or helpful advice would be so appreciated.

Welcome to Calguns!

IMHO, having owned a Marlin 795 myself. You should become familiar with your rifle BEFORE you take it out to shoot. That being said, you should most definitely practice takedown and cleaning your rifle. Pay attention to the way different springs and pins are set. Once you've mastered this, field stripping should be no problem if an issue comes up on the range.

Try a google search of this site. Easiest way I found to do this is by going to Google and typing the following: site:calguns.net marlin 795 (or whatever you're searching for)

I found a 1 1/4" sling with swivels from Midway for $13. I hope it works out for Appleseed.

So I'm looking to get the GI sling and some extra magazines for it. I know for the GI sling I need 1.25" swivels. Various posts in this thread recommend the sling from CDNN but they're out of stock on it. Midway doesn't have the sling either but has swivels.

Since I'd rather get everything in the simplest way possible I looked at Amazon and think I found it.

Will this work for the sling?
