Remington Nylon Rifles

Hello fellow Calguns rimfire enthusiasts! My last post in this section was on an old Winchester 1890 that I picked up and I haven't been super active here on CG, so figured I would share a cool thing that I picked up.

I purchased a parts kit from an old gun (aka disassembled one in pieces/parts), the photos were not super good, but I got if for a reasonable price and the parts arrived the other day. I open the box, and the stock is non-other than a Seneca Green stock, plus it is a 1959 era gun based on the barrel stamp and internals. So here is a pic of the new to me Seneca Green Nylon 66 between my two Mohawk Brown Nylon 12 (1963) and Nylon 76 (1962).



Having a super amount of fun with these old plastic (Zytel) stocked rimfires. It is hard to see in the photo, but when you have the Seneca Green (SG) stock in your hand and next to a Mohawk Brown one, it is clear that they are not the same color, even though the SG one has shades of brown in the plastic IMO. This one fills a hole in my Nylon collection as being my oldest Nylon and my first SG stock.

The N76 is my wifes' as her father who is currently fighting metastasized prostate cancer gave it to her and it was the very first firearm he purchased after leaving the USN.

Nice collection. Other than then them being cool because they're unique and different are there any benefits over wood stocks? I'm guessing lightweight and weatherproof but I've never owned one.

Super light and Remington advertised how good they performed in bad weather.

Their trigger and trigger reset are superb IMO.

They are tube magazine fed and Remington developed a usable (but not super good) magazine system IMO, the Nylon 77, 10C and Apache 77s have magazines.

I have one....very lightweight, reliable and accurate. Wish I could find a green one.

Very cool! I need a Seneca Green and an upgrade to the Apache Black to complete my set. Fun fun fun guns to shoot.

I own a "couple" of these great old rifles, and always knew about the Seneca Green, but never held one, so it was kind-of a unicorn to me. The moment I took that stock out of the box, I knew it wasn't the mohawk brown. That is the neat thing about the > 1 million nylons made, is you never know what you're going to find!

I had a black 66. I was unlucky. The rifle could not hit the ocean if you shot it out of a boat. I gave it to a farmer who needed a 22 and said he did not care about the accuracy (?) (I got to duck hunt on his ponds for that gift.)

Is the Seneca a box mag fed or tube through the stock magazine?

Reason I ask is I saw one at a local LGS here in Albuquerque last week with a vintage scope on it and thought I'd Scored big time. When I took it off the floor rack I quickly noticed it was box mag fed AND the receiver covered was black parkerized not the original blue finish which was known to get pitting if not properly cared for, price was in the $350 range.
I had several Nylon 66 types that were box mag fed and were jamomatics which I sold off and kept my buttstock fed Mohawk Brown 66.

Just found information that mentions the box fed Seneca Greens were considered unreliable, unlike the tube fed models, glad I followed my instincts!

Yeah I usually prefer mag fed .22s, but that tube mag on the 66 is freakishly reliable.

The Nylon 66, 76, and 12 are tube magazine fed. They come in the three colors (Mohawk Brown, Apache Black and Seneca Green)-not sure if the Nylon 12s came in anything except Mohawk Brown . The Magazine fed Nylons are the Nylon 77, Apache 77 (with a green stock and black forearm diamond - not the Seneca Green) and the 10C. The later Apache 77s were made for K-Mart from 1987-1989 and had the parkerized receivers and green stocks. Some of the Apache 77s had scopes included and shown on the remington label on the OEM packaging. Sadly I do not have any OEM packaging, but have seen photos.
